The dual carriageway
\nIs a fast stretch
\nOf road and it can be
\nDangerous if obstructions
\nSuddenly drivers see<\/p>\n
It happened we hear yesterday
\nA dog pounding away
\nAnd so the police decision
\nWas to run it down
\nLets say
\nThey let the dog continue
\nAnd collisions could ensue
\nMaybe a major pile up
\nAnd deaths what could they do<\/p>\n
With all their bloody cameras
\nAnd tetra towers about
\nThey could have closed a stretch of road
\nWhy was that in doubt
\nSo they identified two officers
\nWith dogs and said that they
\nShould run the dog down at high speed
\nAnd do it without delay<\/p>\n
Judgement and discretion
\nAdjudicators they
\nBecame the judge and jury
\nAnd the executioner to pay
\nA price for being frightened
\nNot knowing what to do
\nScared shitless just imagine that
\nAnd the police they run you through<\/p>\n
For me that was loose thinking
\nAn error in my book
\nArrogance took over
\nNot a second look
\nA dog so what it was easier
\nKill it with a car
\nEnsure the speed was fast enough
\nThis is how they are<\/p>\n
What if it was a little child
\nOr a cow how would they be
\nMore sensitive more thoughtfulness
\nOr more anxiety
\nWith helicopters in the sky
\nAnd warning lights on show
\nThere has to be another way
\nTo instruct cars to go slow<\/p>\n
This was a true life drama
\ncalling for some empathy
\nA frightened dog in panic mode
\nNeeds calming actually
\nChasing after the victim
\nAnd hitting it at speed
\nAlso may have caused accidents
\nThe indifference it does feed<\/p>\n
Into the present day events
\nThe apathy we see
\nInflexible and unresponsive
\nAnd uncaring actually
\nFear no doubt was evident
\nAnd,thinking it through
\nIf Death could have been prevented
\nIt was the best thing they could do<\/p>\n
But judgement clearly wasn’t
\nAt its best and this poor soul
\nWas regarded as a hazard
\nAnd the rashness of the role
\nAt somebody’s discretion
\nWho knows whether they
\nWeighed it up or decided
\nKill the dog is the only way<\/p>\n
The story says the officers
\nDoing the dirty deed
\nWere dog lovers that tells me something
\nFor dog lovers to succeed
\nIn murdering a frighted dog
\nRunning for its life
\nGives me call to worry
\nWhy create the strife<\/p>\n
To me a certain hardness
\nToward the animal this day
\nWho would have hoped for better
\nTo be taken out this way
\nNot accidentally hit the dog
\nBut go all out to kill
\nSuch unpitying behaviour
\nThe poor souls blood to spill<\/p>\n
In the wrong place at the wrong time
\nTook the drama to a high
\nThere is no absolution
\nFor the innocent soul did die
\nRun down by a police car
\nRun down by design
\nThey were doing their duty
\nWith their conscience on the line<\/p>\n
Lets hope they have all learned something
\nWe share our space with those
\nOther earthlings living in the countryside
\nSuppose
\nA deer even a pedestrian
\nFallen possibly
\nWith CCTV everywhere
\nWhat would happen actually<\/p>\n
Who made the decision
\nTo kill the dog I wonder
\nWere they animal lovers too
\nWitnessing the thunder
\nAs that dogs heart ran like the wind
\nTrying hard to see
\nHopeful he could get off the road
