The Lakota a proud people
\nA sovereign nation
\nThe reservations
\nWho have their own laws
\nWomen apparently lost
\nNow in time
\nSexual abuse
\nThe figures they climb
\nFamilies close ranks
\nRetribution can be
\nFierce amongst families
\nA big problem we see<\/p>\n
Many get raped
\nMany abused
\nMany will not report
\nCrimes they have refused
\nThey know that to do this
\nRetaliation
\nCan come in the form
\nThat means the reservation
\nIs dangerous its ugly
\nAnd homicides are
\nSadly on the increase
\nYou cannot go far <\/p>\n
So you will be hounded
\nConstantly checked
\nIts so patriarchal
\nWhose is adept
\nTo this man thing
\nThis power thing
\nNobody cares
\nAnd not enough police
\nNot even in pairs<\/p>\n
Alcohol pumps up the parties
\nAnd they
\nAre often in abandoned houses
\nA way
\nFrom anywhere else
\nLoud music and booze
\nGang raping happens
\nThey have little to loose<\/p>\n
Some have been murdered
\nAnd nothing is done
\nTied up and gang raped
\nAnd beaten no fun
\nFor the women out partying
\nIntimidation
\nThere is no deterrent
\nOn the reservation<\/p>\n
A few women’s hostels
\nBut again under fire
\nSome leave the reservation
\nWhen life gets dire
\nBut really there is no hope
\nFor women abroad
\nAnd many will suffer
\nOr die by the sword<\/p>\n
Unemployment is massive
\nSome eighty per cent
\nNot enough police
\nAnd a lot of dissent
\nParents are out drinking
\nThats what they do
\nDrowning their sorrows
\nNow very few<\/p>\n
Care about their children
\nThe gangs do their thing
\nAnd women are raped
\nThis crime they now bring
\nTo the table of consciousness
\nHopeful that they
\nMay get a hearing
\nBut sadly today<\/p>\n
The indigenous women
\nAre given short shrift
\nWith no graduation
\nOf course theres a rift
\nIts shard to imagine this great nation
\nWas
\nOnce proud and stalwart
\nBut now well because<\/p>\n
They are poor and they feel
\nThere is now just no hope
\nThis alienation it is hard to cope
\nAs youngsters on alcohol
\nWith little to do
\nNo real motivation
\nTheir misfortune is true
\nLife does get weary
\nIts wretched as well
\nIf, this is freedom
