{"id":25906,"date":"2016-01-17T18:26:56","date_gmt":"2016-01-17T18:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=25906"},"modified":"2016-01-17T18:32:10","modified_gmt":"2016-01-17T18:32:10","slug":"jahai-tribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2016\/01\/jahai-tribe\/","title":{"rendered":"jahai Tribe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is only 900 of us left<br \/>\nWe&#8217;re the Jahai and we live<br \/>\nIn the northern most part<br \/>\nOf Malaysia<br \/>\nIn the jungles and we give<br \/>\nA lot back to the jungle<br \/>\nAs much as we take away<br \/>\nIts all about respect out there<br \/>\nWhatever people say<br \/>\nAnd each day as hunters we are<br \/>\nForced to go out to find our food<br \/>\nThere are no shops for many miles<br \/>\nAs a people we exude<\/p>\n<p>Confidence<br \/>\nin jungles<br \/>\nWe hunt  for all we eat<br \/>\nWe use the simplest weapons<br \/>\nWhich we make now to compete<br \/>\nWith the many wilder animals<br \/>\nThat frequent the jungle and<br \/>\nCompete really on equal terms<br \/>\nAll living off the land<\/p>\n<p>We hunt monkey we hunt squirrels<br \/>\nAnd  some times porcupine<br \/>\nWe catch fish in the river<br \/>\nAnd the community does dine<br \/>\nWe share the jungle pastures<br \/>\nWith elephants and more<br \/>\nWith tigers and with monkeys<br \/>\nAnd the habitat is our store<\/p>\n<p>Everything comes out of it<br \/>\nFood and weaponry<br \/>\nClothing we get our medicines<br \/>\nAll of it for free<br \/>\nAnd we use every part of what we get<br \/>\nWaste is not our thing<br \/>\nWe cannot raise farm animals<br \/>\nBecause Tigers are the king<\/p>\n<p>Pin around this village<br \/>\nAnd so we hunt our game<br \/>\nWe so not use guns only blowpipes<br \/>\nThats our claim to fame<\/p>\n<p>We are indigenous hunters<br \/>\nWe only take what we<br \/>\nNeed to feed each other with<br \/>\nAnd we take it regularly<br \/>\nOur macrobiotic diet<br \/>\nGives us what we need each day<br \/>\nAnd its all fresh from the jungle<br \/>\nFor that is the jahai way<\/p>\n<p>Hunting is very dangerous<br \/>\nStealth is our quality<br \/>\nWe walk bare foot most of the time<br \/>\nAnd our eyes can always see<br \/>\nShelter food and weapons<br \/>\nAre all made by us<br \/>\nWe track we use the herbal stuff<br \/>\nAnd our lives are free of fuss<\/p>\n<p>We always catch the monkeys<br \/>\nAbout 40per cent we eat<br \/>\nCatching them by poisoned dart<br \/>\nAnd its very hard to beat<br \/>\nFor taste and for nutrition<br \/>\nBut we do like porcupine<br \/>\nWhich we smoke our of their burrows<br \/>\nAnd we use their spine<\/p>\n<p>Some city dwellers frown upon the hunter<br \/>\nIn this day<br \/>\nBut we live in the densest jungle<br \/>\nVery far away<br \/>\nFrom cities or from built up towns<br \/>\nOur home has always been<br \/>\nAmongst the greenest jungle<br \/>\nAway from the machine<\/p>\n<p>We are the jungle people<br \/>\nLiving alongside<br \/>\nOf course the jungle animals<br \/>\nWho generally hide<br \/>\nThey live their lives<br \/>\nAnd we live ours<br \/>\nThat is what we do<br \/>\nWe take some bush meat every day<br \/>\nAnd fruits and green things too<\/p>\n<p>We use tree and plant poisons<br \/>\nTo catch fish in the streams<br \/>\nAnd to poison our blow pipe darts<br \/>\nAnd so reduce the screams<br \/>\nWe have to be so careful<br \/>\nWhen handling the darts<br \/>\nBecause if they prick our skin at all<br \/>\nDeath quickly imparts<\/p>\n<p>We learn to know the jungle<br \/>\nTo walk  with silent stride<br \/>\nTo only take what we do need<br \/>\nAnd instinctively to hide<br \/>\nTo know the ways of animals<br \/>\nTo respect them anyway<br \/>\nTo be aware of the Tigers<br \/>\nAnd the Elephants who stay<\/p>\n<p>We never leave our village<br \/>\nFor the cities far away<br \/>\nWe have no means of buying<br \/>\nThings or riding anyway<br \/>\nWe walk and are self sufficient<br \/>\nIn everything we do<br \/>\nWe never waste or pollute<br \/>\nOur jungle<br \/>\nNeither should any of you<\/p>\n<p> jungle<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is only 900 of us left We&#8217;re the Jahai and we live In the northern most part Of Malaysia In the jungles and we give A lot back to the jungle As much as we take away Its all &hellip;
