To be saved from a nasty bit of work
\nCharged for beating her
\nThe publicity of sanctuary
\nLike everyone we were
\nHappy that this poor old soul
\nWould be given her sweet tour
\nOf duty in an animal park
\nNot just made to endure<\/p>\n
A life without companions
\nBut now we hear Longleat
\nIntends to scrap its elephant park
\nAnd from what I read to bleat
\nOn about a solitary existence
\nFor Dear Anne
\nTo once again just let her down
\nYes it all goes down the pan<\/p>\n
So her life upon this earth
\nThats how it has to be
\nlonely for Longleat
\nCannot see the worth<\/p>\n
And the wildness thats still in her bones
\nWhere elephants all tend
\nTo be with other elephants
\nAnd to adopt a friend<\/p>\n
In the winter of one’s life
\nThis must be some let down
\nThis a typical human response
\nGarnered by a clown
\nThe circus now the game park
\nIts a venture to be seen
\nOf giving animals freedom
\nTo live as they have been<\/p>\n
In old age
\nSolitary confinement
\nIs going to break her heart
\nIt brings to the surface those memories
\nIts a bloody awful start<\/p>\n
Especially when her feelings
\nAre everything today
\nIts going to cut her to the core
\nAnd again she will have to pay<\/p>\n
Its finance led
\nHer quality experience
\nAll goes
\nOut the door
\nLongleat has its reasons
\nWho could ask for more<\/p>\n
We all need a companion
\nThat is part of life
\nBut where profit is the driving force
\nWhats a little strife<\/p>\n
I sadly leave a tear for her
\nWhat else can she do
\nBe subservient be thankful
\nShe’s alive
\nYea, that is true
\nWhen Nature rules the roost for you
\nWe live where we are placed
\nWe live within a family
\nAnd possibly feel graced<\/p>\n
Its true the family unit
\nIn the human population
\nIs being crucified today
\nIts the new occupation<\/p>\n
So animals they are lucky
\nTo be alive and well
\nNo bull hooks just sweet loneliness
\nIts the spirit that they sell<\/p>\n
So chained up in a silence
\nTo contemplate it all
\nLife with human neighbours
\nProtected by a wall
\nOf arrogance and ignorance
\nNo reason really to be
\nAnything but very sad
\nAnd of course a solitary<\/p>\n
She can learn to meditate
\nTo philosophize
\nTo be
\nConcentrating her inner powers
\nOf just trying to be
\nUnderstanding of humans
\nAnd what drives them on
\nThe corporate message
\nIs easy
