\nAre what its all about
\nThe unscrupulous cut the roots off
\nWhich is how they flout
\nThe sales of goods act actually
\nDestruction is what they do
\nCut off the roots

\nStolen in one hit
\nThe meanness of the trader
\nWho doesn’t care a bit
\nIf only we had let it be

Minus roots we stuff it in a plastic
\nPot
\nAnd we
\nDecorate with plastic and glass baubles
\nSuch a tree
\nGradually its dying
\nIn a centrally heated place
\nNo roots to sustain it
\nIt is a disgrace<\/p>\n

\nA german family had an evergreen tree
\nGrown near the Rhine
\nand it
\nWas just transferred back outside
\nAnd for ages it did sit
\nReminding them of the yule tide
\nAnd was some kind of hit<\/p>\n
And now most families have one
\nThe markets have gone wild
\nGrowing them for christmas
\nAnd destroying them
\nWhat child
\nWould ever want to see this
\nBut it happens anyway
\nThe profit of the trader
\nSees the poor trees
\nMade to pay<\/p>\n
Symbolism matters
\nApparently, but still
\nThey support the unethical trade
\nAnd probably always will
\nThe ethical will plant it
\nIn your garden which is right
\nAnd you can decorate it there
\nWhat a pretty sight<\/p>\n
Its all about the evergreen
\nThat spirit you can see
\nNot languishing in some coloured pot
\nAnd dying rapidly
\nIts needles dropping everywhere
\nFor no more its sap can Flow
\nIts life force has been cut off
\nBy the illiterate, it can’t grow<\/p>\n
