The winter solstice
\nA time when we
\nCan eventually rest a while
\nMerrily
\nObserve the forest
\nIts trees some bare
\nFeel the firelight in one’s hair
\nKnow in the cold sod
\nSeeds now sprout
\nBoldly they venture
\nIn no doubt<\/p>\n
In our hearts a warmth
\nWe feel
\nOut of the window
\nIts very real
\nThe frost gives rise
\nTo our wintry gaze
\nIn the grate of life
\nA fire we raise<\/p>\n
Sitting closer to the hearth
\nHearing the wind
\nAnd its true wrath
\nDrawing the fire
\nFrom the grate to where
\nIt mingles
\nWith the roof top air<\/p>\n
The forest is still
\nAnd the river may
\nBe locked in ice
\nOr slowed lets say
\nLets walk a while
\nLets see our breath
\nLeave us in clouds
\nLets remember the death<\/p>\n
Of millions of Turkeys
\nThat had strutted their stuff
\nOr probably nowadays
\nCrippled enough
\nNo place to wander
\nSo tightly packed
\nThey hobbled and sat
\nIn their excrement
\nFACT<\/p>\n
So many animals perished
\nThis fall
\nSo many animals hung on the wall
\nNot even stunned
\nThe kosher way
\nThe muslims suggestion
\nThat stole their day<\/p>\n
Some of you maybe
\nSing a song
\nOr hum one as you walk along
\nPerhaps a ritual in the dark
\nOr home by the hearth
\nOur wish to mark<\/p>\n
The winter solstice
\nThe mistletoe
\nThe holly the ivy
\nAll those we know<\/p>\n
The solstice sun is relieved
\nTo feel
\nHe is back again
\nAnd will reveal
\nHimself with light
\nThrown from above
\nTo promise us eternal love<\/p>\n
Those seeds who have boldly
\nLeft their skin
\nWill search the darkness
\nGrow strong and win<\/p>\n
Their right to push through
\nThe frozen soil
\nThis is vital masterful toil
\nTo express themselves
\nWith a glorious ring
\nWhen they burst forth
