An insect supermarket on my doorstep
\nAmidst the willow leaves a yard away
\nHere among the wood and moss filled mounds
\nI found a hole
\nAnd a tunnel through to somewhere I can stay<\/p>\n
Beneath a tall heap in a favourite garden
\nAnd added to by those lads from next door
\nThen of course it dawned on me
\nNovember, not just hibernation but the floor<\/p>\n
Was set for
\nGuy Fawkes and those awful bonfires
\nBang there goes my Christmas villa here
\nI could end up baked alive
\nNo thank you
\nPeace on earth and heaps of yule tide cheer<\/p>\n
Perhaps there is a place I can still go to
\nUnderneath the shed an old rat den
\nYes its dark and sheltered there
\nThats possible
\nIn amongst the garden tools, but when<\/p>\n
Should I move out and get into the shed space
\nIt seems there are loads of lovely juicy slugs
\nA lot of rotten wood appears to be there
\nAnd hopefully a lot of fine fat bugs
\nA leather jacket boy that tasted special
\nI am in my blooming element, and whats more
\nA hedgehog needs to get all of his nutrients
\nThat is what a hedgehogs life is for<\/p>\n
Got to keep the spines in good condition
\nCant go mooching around a frosty hole
\nAnd then get in a panic because its freezing
\nGot to learn to just be in control
\nWe have to kill the slugs and crunchy beetles
\nA worm or two or maybe even three
\nBut we have to keep away from half baked humans
\nThere is one who puts out bowls of milk for me<\/p>\n
In all my wildest dreams I am no moo cow
\nMy baby’s not a calf no not a hope
\nIts hedgehog milk we need when we are babies
\nBut now I am all grown up I couldn’t cope
\nWith cows milk from the fridge all cooked and ruined
\nWe have strong teeth and eat organically
\nI am off to stake my claim at Cooks Delight’s old shed
