Elephants living out in the wild
\nFace conflict in dry seasons
\nWhen problems are piled
\nHigher for them than ever before
\nBecause people move in on them
\nClearly unsure<\/p>\n
Farmers grow crops which elephants eat
\nOut in the jungle its hard to compete
\nWith what is available so what they do
\nIs break down the fence and just come on through
\nWild elephants wonder why fences are there<\/p>\n
The bounteous offerings they wish to share
\nAnd cant really understand why they are not
\nAllowed to feed freely where theres such a lot
\nBut clearly the conflict grows by the day
\nThe herds are starving and they have no way<\/p>\n
Of getting to villages its just the bulls
\nThat cause the rumpus and so they dig pools
\nAnd fill them with water so elephants can
\nDrink and bathe sometimes provided by man
\nThe DWC has used fire crackers to
\nFrighten the elephants so what they do<\/p>\n
Is attack the people carrying light
\nWhich they often do when they are walking at night
\nAnd there have been fatalities 2 people killed
\nAnd one sad elephant it was revealed
\ngot tangled in fencing and died in the night
\nAnd protestors also which of course isn’t right<\/p>\n
There has to be something done soon for we know
\nShri Lankan elephants are part of the flow
\nKilled they are protected iconic they be
\nWith extremes of weather in the dry seasons heat
\nElephants need help if they are to eat
\nAnd drink but the people are short sighted they<\/p>\n
Cant see eye to eye with the elephants way
\nSo the wild life people have to agree
\nPerhaps bio fences might work and just free
\nUp the involvement with villagers who
\nAre trying to make ends meet thats what they do<\/p>\n
Yala Park elephants do really need
\nSome help we have taken their land to succeed
\nThey need our help and we need to see
\nWild elephants living around us the plea
\nIs to the new government who could intervene<\/p>\n
Providing their help in ways that are green
\nHauling in food digging ponds maybe too
\nLearn to live side by side good and true
\nThis is a problem all over the place
\nPeople want land at such a pace
\nEncroaching on wild lands laying down roots<\/p>\n
And when the wild ones come of course man kind shoots
\nFrightens and injures and slaughters those who
\nHave had a right to graze all life through
\nBut now they are given great fences and walls
\nAnd pushed further away by the two legged fools<\/p>\n
I lay in bed every night and I dream
\nThat once again we found the peaches and cream
\nExistence for wild souls, sharing the land
\nWe are all earthlings and to understand
\nThis true philosophy it would just be<\/p>\n
Much much more practical for that vision I see
\nOf man being kind not just for a while
\nNot creating the conflict try to reconcile
\nA way going forward where wild souls and man
\nCan co exist together part of a great plan
\nSurvival’s integral we must all pull through<\/p>\n
Or may be we will die as all peoples do
\nWars rage but generally talk has to be
\nReturned to and worked through for eternity
\nTo be accomplished we must see eye to eye
\nOr slaughter the opposition
\nAnd sit still and cry<\/p>\n
Each has its point if we all can agree
\nIts far better off that we do honestly
\nThe great pachyderms have much on their plate
