Behold the snowcapped mountains
\nNepal is in the frame
\nWhere secret forests settle
\nAnd terraced fields do claim
\nTheir place above the jungle
\nWhere the pachyderms display
\nA calming gentle panorama
\nRight across each day<\/p>\n
Where buffalos and sambar deer
\nRun the gauntlet and
\nthe elephant grass grows widely
\nAnd abundantly on the land
\nThe Rhinocerus was known as
\nThe unicorn for they
\nWere the stuff of fantasy
\nWith their one horn so to say<\/p>\n
Magical and mysterious
\nWith a following from the East
\nFrom the foreign lands of China
\nThe horn from this said beast
\nCame to be a magical horn
\nAnd this is the reason why
\nAlthough its only keratin
\nIts value is now high<\/p>\n
It goes back to old fables
\nWritten down long ago
\nAnd was taken up by the traditional mob
\nAnd from that it did grow
\nIn Nepal about 400
\nIn India about
\n1200 Still
\nAnd they love the vegetation
\nFrom the rivers that do spill<\/p>\n
The silt and during monsoon
\nVast areas under flood
\nWith swamps extending far and wide
\nGreat watery banks of mud
\nElephants grasses 8 metres high
\ngreen swathes rich and sweet
\nA tapestry of wonderment
\nUnderneath their feet<\/p>\n
Where the Rhino and the Sambar
\nClearly enjoy each day
\nMunching all this verdant grass
\nPassing their time away
\nCrocodiles and Tigers
\nA tigers got it hard
\nNot a lot of prey around
\nMost of them are on guard<\/p>\n
Its funny in so many ways
\nHow the poor old Rhino got
\nTarred it seems as a unicorn
\nWith the horn that did a lot
\nMore a magical mystery tour
\nThan any medical lift
\nAnd really this is terrible
\nAnd not the sort of gift<\/p>\n
Anyone would wish to have
\nMillions of Chinese thinking
\nKeratin and calcium
\nTogether is kind of linking
\nAphrodisiacs and the rest
\nAnd now worth more than gold
\nAnd why so many are now killed
\nAnd why its easily sold<\/p>\n
Rhino’s in the water clear
\nDuck weed by the ton
\nThe presence of all pachyderms
\nReally it has won
\nA lot of praise for the environment
\nFor that makes the water clear
\nIt stirs up worms assorted
\nAnd more birds are then seen here<\/p>\n
Every soul has a reason
\nTo be where its been placed
\nThis is bio diversity
\nIts something that we faced
\nLong ago and possibly more important now
\nWith mans encroachment onto land
\nAnd nature asking how<\/p>\n
When are the Chinese going to see
\nThat fables are not true
\nThat nobody has just been born
\nAnd Rhino horn won’t do
\nIts made just like our finger nails
\nAnd someone has to say
\nThe emperor has got no clothes
\nHe is naked come what may<\/p>\n
There never was a unicorn
\nOutside the magical sphere
\nOnly the wizards know the score
