{"id":25062,"date":"2015-12-13T22:04:41","date_gmt":"2015-12-13T22:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=25062"},"modified":"2015-12-13T22:28:44","modified_gmt":"2015-12-13T22:28:44","slug":"indian-unicorns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/12\/indian-unicorns\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian Unicorns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Behold the snowcapped mountains<br \/>\nNepal is in the frame<br \/>\nWhere secret forests settle<br \/>\nAnd terraced fields do claim<br \/>\nTheir place above the jungle<br \/>\nWhere the pachyderms display<br \/>\nA calming gentle panorama<br \/>\nRight across each day<\/p>\n<p>Where buffalos and sambar deer<br \/>\nRun the gauntlet and<br \/>\nthe elephant grass grows widely<br \/>\nAnd abundantly on the land<br \/>\nThe Rhinocerus was known as<br \/>\nThe unicorn for they<br \/>\nWere the stuff of fantasy<br \/>\nWith their one horn so to say<\/p>\n<p>Magical and mysterious<br \/>\nWith a following from the East<br \/>\nFrom the foreign lands of China<br \/>\nThe horn from this said beast<br \/>\nCame to be a magical horn<br \/>\nAnd this is the reason why<br \/>\nAlthough its only keratin<br \/>\nIts value is now high<\/p>\n<p>It goes back to old fables<br \/>\nWritten down  long ago<br \/>\nAnd was taken up by the traditional mob<br \/>\nAnd from that it did grow<br \/>\nIn Nepal about 400<br \/>\nIn India about<br \/>\n1200 Still<br \/>\nAnd they love the vegetation<br \/>\nFrom the rivers that do spill<\/p>\n<p>The silt and during monsoon<br \/>\nVast areas under flood<br \/>\nWith swamps extending far and wide<br \/>\nGreat watery banks of mud<br \/>\nElephants grasses 8 metres high<br \/>\ngreen swathes  rich and sweet<br \/>\nA tapestry of wonderment<br \/>\nUnderneath their feet<\/p>\n<p>Where the Rhino and the Sambar<br \/>\nClearly enjoy each day<br \/>\nMunching all this verdant grass<br \/>\nPassing their time away<br \/>\nCrocodiles and Tigers<br \/>\nA tigers got it hard<br \/>\nNot a lot of prey around<br \/>\nMost of them are on guard<\/p>\n<p>Its funny in so many ways<br \/>\nHow the poor old Rhino got<br \/>\nTarred it seems as a unicorn<br \/>\nWith the horn that did a lot<br \/>\nMore a magical mystery tour<br \/>\nThan any medical lift<br \/>\nAnd really this  is terrible<br \/>\nAnd not the sort of gift<\/p>\n<p>Anyone would wish to have<br \/>\nMillions of Chinese thinking<br \/>\nKeratin and calcium<br \/>\nTogether is kind of linking<br \/>\nAphrodisiacs and the rest<br \/>\nAnd now worth more than gold<br \/>\nAnd why so many are now killed<br \/>\nAnd why its easily sold<\/p>\n<p>Rhino&#8217;s in the water clear<br \/>\nDuck weed by the ton<br \/>\nThe presence of all pachyderms<br \/>\nReally it has won<br \/>\nA lot of praise for the environment<br \/>\nFor that makes the water clear<br \/>\nIt stirs up worms assorted<br \/>\nAnd more birds are then seen here<\/p>\n<p>Every soul has a reason<br \/>\nTo be where its been placed<br \/>\nThis is bio diversity<br \/>\nIts something that we faced<br \/>\nLong ago and possibly more important now<br \/>\nWith mans encroachment onto land<br \/>\nAnd nature asking how<\/p>\n<p>When  are the Chinese going to see<br \/>\nThat fables are not true<br \/>\nThat nobody has just been born<br \/>\nAnd Rhino horn won&#8217;t do<br \/>\nIts made just like our finger nails<br \/>\nAnd someone has to say<br \/>\nThe emperor has got no clothes<br \/>\nHe is naked come what may<\/p>\n<p>There never was a unicorn<br \/>\nOutside the magical sphere<br \/>\nOnly the wizards know the score<br \/>\nSo Rhino&#8217;s live in fear<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Behold the snowcapped mountains Nepal is in the frame Where secret forests settle And terraced fields do claim Their place above the jungle Where the pachyderms display A calming gentle panorama Right across each day Where buffalos and sambar deer &hellip;
