The giant of giants
\nSo massively strong
\nLiving in India
\nHow is that wrong
\nSome 30,000 wild souls
\nNow live
\nIn the jungles there actually
\nAnd they do give<\/p>\n
Their wealth and their freedom
\nGreat families are they
\nBut sadly too many are stolen
\nAway
\nTortured and beaten and frightfully abused
\nTheir spirit is crumpled
\nAnd they are misused<\/p>\n
One such sweet darling
\nA fifty year old
\n“Lakshmi” laboriously
\nClearly was sold
\nInto enslavement
\nA temple of god
\nThiruvamdady along with a rod
\nOf iron she was beaten
\nHer heart broken by
\nA mahout who she angered
\nAnd who Blinded her eye<\/p>\n
She ate up his vegetables
\nThe story goes
\nHe left them unattended
\nAnd of course they did pose
\nAn opportunity for her to eat
\nAnd for eating his food
\nHe gave her a treat<\/p>\n
He beat her and beat her
\nAnd damaged her eye
\nThen poked his fingers
\nIn it making her cry
\nShe tried very hard to force her lid
\nTo close
\nBut they dug and they dug
\nAnd thats how it goes<\/p>\n
Looking deep into her face
\nYou could see
\nthe white ball of damage
\nFeel that agony
\nThe mahout he was sacked
\nAnd a new mahout came
\nWho is being gentle
\nBut she is being shackled
\nAnd much is still the same<\/p>\n
Her poor legs are sore from the rubbing
\nAll day
\nGreat pus filled sores
\nThey are making her pay
\nSo called temple wallers
\nGodly maybe
\nBut her rigour and stress
\nThey just do not see<\/p>\n
The repetitive movements
\nChafe as she tries
\nTo hobble along
\nIt is no surprise
\nHer wounds diabolical
\nJust share a while
\nThe pain she is suffering
\nIs way off the dial<\/p>\n
Whats wrong with man un kind
\nThe godly suppose
\nThey have their eyes
\nSomewhere near their nose
\nBut they cannot see her
\nThey dare not say
\nThey let her get on with it
\nAll through the day<\/p>\n
22hours of shackle she be
\nTripping and tropping
\nAnd she cannot see
\nIn amongst the regalia the ritual
\nThe noise
\nIts terribly frightening
\nWhat of her joys
\nWhat of her memories
\nWhat of her life
\nThe struggle the pain
\nThe unbelievable strife
\nThe total frustration
\nThe pitiless state
\nThank goodness for Sangita Iyer
\nA date
\nWith this women
\nWho tirelessly tries
\nTo campaign and care for
\nThose without eyes<\/p>\n
Those who are beaten
\nShackled and hurt
\nStruggling onwards
\nScraping the dirt
\nThese great jungle lords
\nWith their massive great weight
\nIn what is often
\na lamentable state<\/p>\n
Unable to feed themselves
\nDamaged and lost
\nUmbrella rituals
\nFire crackers that cost
\nSo much to the sensitive sentient souls
\nWho must be so frightened
\nLed over the coals
\nA war zone of ritual
\nUnknowing such fear
\nFor two complete days
\nIt happens around here<\/p>\n
They must be exhausted
\nThese assignments are long
\nDespite their great strength
\nAll this is so wrong
\nTheir muscles are aching
\nTheir vigour is low
\nThe violence against them
\nHow it does grow<\/p>\n
Their languor their torpor
\nTheir lifelessness shows
\nPassive and lumpish
\nTheir indifference grows
\nSo little space for them
\nDisplaced are they
\nIn the absence of true care
\nThey are pining away<\/p>\n
And what of their memories
\nThose days in the wild
\nThe family the matriarch
\nEvery wild child
\nThe freedom to dip in the river
\nAnd roll
\nThe momentum of all of that
\nInto their soul<\/p>\n
And now the depression
\nThe demotion they feel
\nThe universe greets them
\nIn the past they were real
\nA tangible life force
\nRespected and found
\nThe concept of caring
\nFrom all those around<\/p>\n
Some reawakening new energy
\nRejuvenescence
\nIf they could just be
\nBack in their minds eye
\nWhere they did belong
\nRevived if you like
