The Mae Taeng Valley Sanctuary

\nLive a quiet life of reflection
\nAll are good and true
\nOne soul possibly the oldest
\nMae Bua Loy she be
\nReally old with a broken leg
\nBut is loved fortunately<\/p>\n
Her name means rice ball
\nIn coconut milk
\nA strange name I must say
\nShe now is susceptible to the colder nights
\nHer history made her pay
\nShe was once on the logging gangs
\nSuch hard work and such strain
\nAnd then went begging in the street
\nAnd her poor feet felt such pain<\/p>\n
Now she is in the Elephant Park
\nCared for everyday
\nAlong with other elephants
\nWho truthfully display
\nA lot of love for this old girl
\nWhose mood swings can be great
\nRemembering the logging and the begging
\nAnd the weight
\nPulling hefty logs through jungles
\nIt can really mark
\nOnes character forever
\nThe work was hard and stark<\/p>\n
And now she finds it difficult
\nTo get up if she is down
\nSometimes a crane is now employed
\nTo really go to town
\nAge and all that struggle
\nTakes its toll on all
\nBut she is living quietly
\nAnd answers when they call<\/p>\n
Its always good to see this
\nA sanctuary where care
\nAnd love is given freely
\nAnd lets the world then share
\nThis old lady has been tortured
\nBut she now can rest a while
\nIn a perfectly lovely valley
\nWhere she can reconcile<\/p>\n
Her feelings, and emotions
\nShe must be glad to be
\nSomewhere people do not
\nExploit her where she can see
\nFreedom of sorts now helping her
\nTo see the great blue sky
\nTo taste the greenest shoots around
