The biggest land animals
\nThats what they are
\nElephants
\nIn many ways a big star
\nIn the animal kingdom
\nBut surely today
\nAre suffering terribly
\nNow anyway<\/p>\n
They are family orientated
\nAs we all know
\nMatriarchal as such
\nTheir compassion
\nDoes grow
\nThey have feelings for children
\nAnd the herd as a whole
\nIt is one great big family
\nWhere each know their role<\/p>\n
Greatly intelligent
\nWith memories long
\nMassively heavy
\nAnd wonderfully strong
\nComplete vegetarians
\nGentle and kind
\nThey know how to nurture
\nThis is underlined<\/p>\n
Man
\nIs inhuman to elephants, he
\nBeats them, he is cruel to them
\nThey were born free
\nTo roam through the wilderness
\nGently to sail
\nThrough life on their journeys
\nTheir very long trail<\/p>\n
He traps them and abuses them
\nFor his entertainment
\nMakes them give rides
\nAnd ponder away
\nHe beats them with bull hooks
\nHe starves them and chains them
\nThis is his treatment
\nAnd everyday<\/p>\n
Circus he makes them
\nDo tricks for the audience
\nA wild proud elephant
\nDistressed and sad
\nClimbing on chairs
\nAnd riding a bicycle
\nThis so upsetting
\nAnd ingloriously bad<\/p>\n
See here this elephant
\nStolen from its mother
\nFrom its family of mentors
\nTo work in this way
\nFerrying children around an enclosure
\nThis its reward at the end of the day<\/p>\n
A life of such boredom
\nIts heavy going
\nWalking on hard ground
\nNo match for its weight
\nDestroying its feet and legs
\nAnd its great mind
\nIs this its journey
\nIs this its fate<\/p>\n
Man un kind you are
\nExplicitly hopeless
\nYou lack true affection
\nFor one such as I
\nI am torn from my mother
\nBy sister my brother
\nAnd here in your prison
\nAm expected to ply<\/p>\n
Children your children
\nWhat is their lesson
\nTo feel my strong back
\nTween their legs
\nFeel my heart
\nBursting beneath them
\nAnd me a wild elephant
\nRelinquishing my power
\nRight from the start<\/p>\n
Will they remember
\nThe ride that you paid for
\nAnd will they know of my suffering here
\nWill they imagine the susceptibility
\nOr are they unconscious already
\nIts clear<\/p>\n
They were impervious to the experience
\nBlind to it deaf to it
\nA total waste
\nIt bore no impact
\nApart from my tedium
\nThis is a problem
\nThat has to be faced<\/p>\n
I am a means to an end
\nThe child’s ride
\nDidn’t mean that much
\nThey deep inside
\nWere probably thinking
\nI liked them on me
\nPerhaps when they grow up
\nThen they will be<\/p>\n
Aware that us elephants
\nHate giving rides
\nIt does hurt our feet
\nAnd in our insides
\nWe weep at the true insensitive play
\nMan puts us through
\nEach hour of each day<\/p>\n
And there is never regret
\nNo remorse not that we
\nCan feel in our hearts
\nWe lament this and be
\nRueful in many ways
\nOur joylessness
\nAnd our low spirits
\nThey don’t care a less<\/p>\n
They cant feel our fatigue
\nAtrabilious,v we
\nAre heavy hearted
\nThat man cannot see
\nCant see we are care worn
\nAnd wretched with woe
\nWe just must keep going
\nHowever low<\/p>\n
On his treadmill of life
\nOn his irksome of trails
\nDown his tedious path
\nWhere everything fails
\nOur darkness he won’t share
\nThe monotonous way
\nEach inglorious yawn
\nAt the end of the day<\/p>\n
Our ponderous sluggishness
\nHe cannot read
\nAll his banality
\nWhere does it lead
\nA pedestrian gait
\nA boorishness too
