Vast numbers of animals leave the Serengeti
\nReally in their millions they drive into Maasai
\nFrom Tanzania into Kenya where the pastures are sweet and green
\nOnce a year they make this trip
\nIts a long trip and its mean<\/p>\n
1.7 million Wildebeest will head the charge
\nIn a surging blast of hooves they run
\nThe racket fills the sky
\nJoined by gazelles and Zebra and eland even too
\nThey make this hazardous journey
\nIts what they have to do<\/p>\n
An army a great mass of flesh on legs
\nCreates a sound
\nkicks up the dust each violent thrust
\nIn energy they are drowned<\/p>\n
Amazing ululation an orchestra of sound
\nMusic of the masses seemingly around<\/p>\n
The carnivores are waiting everyone is there
\nTo pick off any stragglers and those less aware<\/p>\n
The have to cross the water and are frightened by it they
\nSuffer very seriously in the Mara for they say<\/p>\n
Its packed with hungry crocodiles who know and will be there
\nSo clearly there are victims that the carnivores will share<\/p>\n
They congregate at river edges instinctively they know
\nWhere the fords are where its not as deep depending on rains
\nAnd flow<\/p>\n
Invariably they will go in one great spurt a crashing run
\nA great tidal wave of bodies not wanting to be outdone<\/p>\n
They really really run hard crashing loudly through
\nThe water hopeful they can make the crossing and some do<\/p>\n
Others will get picked off by the ravenous who know
\nthis is their chance for fresh meat too and of course help them to grow<\/p>\n
That rich green Maasai Mara vegetation draws them on
\nThey love all of its goodness which they want to feed upon<\/p>\n
And they go through hell and high water to reach their paradise
\nClearly they are enlightened and as such it does suffice<\/p>\n
It really is an amazing sight this collective movement does
\nCome to our eyes easily with all its amazing buzz<\/p>\n
Its compelling its such drama its the meaning of life
\nThe greatest affirmation burying any strife<\/p>\n
It is instinctive knowledge they know where to go
\nNo maps no bloody sat navs head down enjoy the show<\/p>\n
A majority of mentors to guide them on their way
\nMost in fact do make the trip and it with their strength they
\npay<\/p>\n
Their dogged concentration tireless through and through
