{"id":23313,"date":"2015-09-19T16:51:12","date_gmt":"2015-09-19T16:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=23313"},"modified":"2015-09-19T18:59:10","modified_gmt":"2015-09-19T18:59:10","slug":"orangutan-petting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/09\/orangutan-petting\/","title":{"rendered":"Orangutan petting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The forest offers up a vibrant ape<br \/>\nIts hair so red<br \/>\nThe canopy its hideaway<br \/>\nIts where it builds its bed<br \/>\nA nest of leaves atop of some<br \/>\nTree<br \/>\nFloating in the sky<br \/>\nUntil man and his inappropriate logging<br \/>\nJust came by<\/p>\n<p>Massive saws and grinders<br \/>\nRipped into the heart<br \/>\nBulldozers and JCB&#8217;s<br \/>\nPulled it all by cart<br \/>\nAnd all that was left was wretchedness<br \/>\nBare ground for all to see<br \/>\nThe trees and leaves and myriad sounds<br \/>\nWould never ever be<\/p>\n<p>Seen by any eyes again<br \/>\nJust the violence and the pain<br \/>\nThe cacophony of nature<br \/>\nAll its history in vain<br \/>\nThe colours of the rainbow<br \/>\nThat filtered through the trees<br \/>\nLost in this catastrophe<br \/>\nThis moment we must seize<\/p>\n<p>They came for me<br \/>\nI was broken hearted<br \/>\nBurned a bit and torn<br \/>\nAching from having fallen<br \/>\nHaving felt all of  the scorn<br \/>\nOf man the dreaded monster<br \/>\nWho comes with all the pain<br \/>\nWho ruptured our existence<br \/>\nAnd provided the disdain<\/p>\n<p>A number of us survivors<br \/>\nWere taken to a place<br \/>\nAnd thrust inside dark cages<br \/>\nThat was to be our base<br \/>\nOther people came to see us<br \/>\nTourists we were told<br \/>\nAnd we were then expected<br \/>\nTo be as good as gold<\/p>\n<p>To sit quietly together<br \/>\nTo watch the humans who<br \/>\nPaid money just to see us<br \/>\nAll we had to do<br \/>\nWas let them touch us<br \/>\nAnd breathe on us<br \/>\nAnd take their photo&#8217;s<br \/>\nWe<br \/>\nJust sit there feeling<br \/>\nUncomfortable<br \/>\nObserving them to see<\/p>\n<p>These so called tourists up close<br \/>\nThey sweat and smell a lot<br \/>\nThey touch us with their clammy hands<br \/>\nIts something that is not<br \/>\nAltogether joyful<br \/>\nBut we have to knuckle down<br \/>\nAnd accept our new life gracefully<br \/>\nOr we might be kicked out of town<\/p>\n<p>Petting places they are called<br \/>\nTourists pay a lot<br \/>\nAnd they seem so insensitive<br \/>\nAnd happy they are not<br \/>\nThey seem dark and possessive<br \/>\nAnd churlish in a way<br \/>\nThey grab at us<br \/>\nThey fail to feel<br \/>\nAnd somehow they don&#8217;t play<\/p>\n<p>We are very susceptible<br \/>\nTo their breathing and their ills<br \/>\nIt seems that they all carry<br \/>\nA multitude of chills<br \/>\nTheir pale skin proves their lack of health<br \/>\nAnd we have to be aware<br \/>\nThe illnesses they carry<br \/>\nSeemingly they share<\/p>\n<p>Our place is in the canopy<br \/>\nNot here upon the ground<br \/>\nBeing close to all  of you<br \/>\nThat is what we have found<br \/>\nPetting zoo&#8217;s as they are called<br \/>\nAre hell holes for us and, we<br \/>\nGiven the chance would have rather<br \/>\nDied falling from a tree<\/p>\n<p>To be rescued and be caged up<br \/>\nAnd put on show for you<br \/>\nTo pet us and to touch us<br \/>\nIts not what you should do<br \/>\nIndonesia should realise<br \/>\nWe are iconic and we need<br \/>\nForests dense and luscious<br \/>\nWhere all life can succeed<\/p>\n<p>We beg you to respect that<br \/>\nGive us back our place<br \/>\nThe forest is exceptional<br \/>\nIts something you must face<br \/>\nThe life force is immeasurable<br \/>\nIts intoxicating there<br \/>\nIt enlivens our existence<br \/>\nYou have to be aware<\/p>\n<p>Its dramatic its sensational<br \/>\nIts humbling and sublime<br \/>\nIt has everything that you could want<br \/>\nIts where we pass our time<br \/>\nTo destroy it and plant oil palm<br \/>\nBrings the darkness to the fore<br \/>\nBrings the man made hell of evil<br \/>\nRight up to our door<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The forest offers up a vibrant ape Its hair so red The canopy its hideaway Its where it builds its bed A nest of leaves atop of some Tree Floating in the sky Until man and his inappropriate logging Just &hellip;
