The concept of improvement
\nof what was, already perfect
\nto me smacks of an arrogance
\nthat man, alone can boast
\nusing transgenic methods
\nand bacterial and viral genes
\nconferring tolerance to disease
\nwell I can see now
\nwhat that means
\nRound up Ready Soya
\nMonsanto’s evil brew
\nthat allows those plants
\nto be sprayed with herbicide
\nbut grow on through
\nthe wild plants they will perish
\nthe soya will remain
\nthe farmer will not have to weed
\nand everyone does gain
\na better crop
\nit reduces costs
\nselective herbicides
\nand less of them
\nwell that’s the promise
\nand so much now rides
\non Rice, Soya and oilseed Rape
\nand Cotton
\nPotatoes, Cabbage and Lettuce
\nfor they be
\nout there in the fields
\nincreasing farmers yields
\nand bringing home the
\nviability<\/p>\n
The main aim is
\nincreasing profitability
\nscaled up to what is
\nindustrialised,and we see
\ntransgenic hopes eclipsing
\nthe natural order
\ndespite the living breathing
\ncommodity
\na lot more lean meat
\ntastier than ever
\npotentially already flavoured
\nand less costly which
\nis favoured
\ntraditional farming ties
\nthey then will sever<\/p>\n
Transgenics has evolved into
\ngood pharming
\na system that began behind
\nclosed doors
\nappealing to the patient
\nfor it makes wild plants
\ncreative
\nat producing drugs to order
\npapering over natural flaws<\/p>\n
but really this has muddied
\nthe GM water
\nfor GM foods have come along
\nand now
\nwell it is out of hand
\nand its all across the land
\nand thinking back
\none really must ask how
\nblood clotting agents, insulin
\ngrowth hormones and vaccines
\nmonoclonal antibodies
\nand lacto ferrin means
\nit can now be included
\nin the milk which does preclude
\nthe offspring being weaned on it
\nwhich is altogether crude<\/p>\n
Its complete manipulation
\nof farm animals
\nthey are to be abused and I believe
\nits ill advised, unreasonable
\nand unbalanced
\nfor its motives concern profit
\nto achieve
\nrewards that far outweigh
\nthe present systems
\nthe vector here can’t function
\nany more
\nthey lose their rights
\nto any natural being
\nin ethical terms
\nit just breaks every law<\/p>\n
Squarely put its
\ncomplete manipulation
\na sordid selfish symptom
\nof our time
\nit discounts all material thought
\nits hypothesis is
\nmeaningless,
\nan unutterable untruth
\nin which to climb<\/p>\n
Where it may lead
\nI can only wonder
\nthese self styled guru’s
\nlack the march of time
\nthey exaggerate performance
\nthey magnify result
\nand misrepresent the outcome
\nwhich smacks of the occult
\ngenetic alteration on
\na scale envisaged here
\nis tantamount to meddling
\nwhich draws a scale of fear
\nthe animal is living
\nwith an instinct and a brain
\nbut is purely a commodity
\nfor man’s inherent gain<\/p>\n
In many ways I am glad
\nI’m in the autumn of my life
\nand may not see the outcome
\nthe evil and the strife
\nthe basis leads to a hierarchial
\nprejudice and that
\ncan only bring disaster
