The indifference and the uninterest
\nThe insouciance we feel
\nUnresponsive to the agony
\nThat others feel for real
\nMost could not care less about the soul
\nThe ocean child
\nWe show a kind of apathy towards
\nThem when they are wild<\/p>\n
Fish part of the diet
\nOf humans it would seem
\nThe excruciating decompression
\nWe fail to hear them scream
\nBut scream they do our ears though
\nNot sensitive enough
\nOur lethargy is obvious
\nFor as such a foodstuff
\nIs more the point of interest
\nWe see it with a sauce
\nWith ginger and with garlic
\nAs a matter, of course<\/p>\n
The fact that it was sentient
\nDoesn’t cross our minds
\nIts wretched state of misery
\nIt really underlines
\nIts kind of deep tranquillity
\nWhich rapidly reveals
\nhow wounded and downtrodden
\nUp to them how it conceals<\/p>\n
Its true mortification
\nAnd utter agony<\/p>\n
Eyes twitching
\nMouth a gasping
\nIt needs air constantly<\/p>\n
The martyr’s in retreat
\nDragged out of the ocean
\nAnd crushed beneath the feet<\/p>\n
Of the fishermen and the ice he holds
\nOf the sorrow and the death
\nFighting striving gulping
\nFor another ounce of breath<\/p>\n
Billions of doleful faces
\nFrozen straight away
\nAll are bellyaching
\nIn complete dismay
\nAnd do we even listen
\nHave we the organs there
\nWe can taste them when they are cooked
