\nA National Park was where
\nHe lived his life in harmony
\nAnd clearly learned to share
\nHis whereabouts with humans
\nPutting up with all of that
\nWearing a GPS collar
\nSo they knew where he was at<\/p>\n
Guilt and culpability
\nWalk hand in hand they do
\nClose friends with criminality
\nThe involvement of a few
\nSo called big game hunters
\nWhose malpractice some accept
\nIn this case unforgivable
\nNo matter how adept<\/p>\n
To lure a mature Lion
\nOut of its territory to
\nA place where it could legally
\nBe shot and in full view
\nOf a mercenary hunter
\nAn American Dentist who
\nWanted to use a crossbow
\nAnd shoot a big lion through<\/p>\n
Paying over fifty thousand dollars
\nGood value he
\nWas after taking back its head
\nAnd skin as a trophy
\nWhich is reprehensible
\nTo people everywhere
\nUnpardonable behaviour
\nAn indulgence some now dare<\/p>\n
To label as their pastime
\nTheir sport its what they do
\nA camouflage of circumstance
\nA villainy thats true
\nAn egotistic infidel
\nWhose lack of conscience shows
\nComplicit in the ugliness
\nThat seemingly just grows<\/p>\n
This Lion an immense character
\nFamous one can say
\nCertainly the most easily
\nIdentified there in Hwange
\nLured out of the sanctuary
\nIn a shameless act of woe
\nTying a dead animal on their vehicle
\nWe know<\/p>\n
A Lion would get the scent
\nAnd clearly thats what happened here
\nA bunch of bloody scoundrels
\nThat much we see is clear
\nGood-for-nothing hunters
\nOpportunists let us say
\nUnder the mantle of a permit
\nA temptation to betray<\/p>\n
To neglect whats right and obvious
\nThe indiscipline of the call
\nThe irresponsibility
\nIt brings shame on us all
\nThe value of such an animal
\nOf its cubs too who will be
\nMurdered by another Lion
\nTo retain his majesty<\/p>\n
This was clearly some transgression
\nThis canned hunting lark we know
\nIs sinful its offensive
\nThough the cases grow and grow
\nIts all to do with money
\nAnd with loopholes in the law
\nIt is a misdemeanour
\nThat needs looking at for sure<\/p>\n
Lured by mans iniquity
\nCorruption at the core
\nReally human weakness
\nIts something most deplore
\nThe addiction of the psychopath
\nTo fulfil his evil deed
\nIts a lust they have inside of them
\nThey just have to succeed<\/p>\n
And to do it with a crossbow
\nUnblushingly his way
\nTo bring down a majestic soul
\nIn such a graceless way
\nAnd as it happened wounded
\nCecil left in pain
\nAnd tracked him tis said for 40 hours
\nWhich has to be insane!<\/p>\n
How can that be sport
\nIts callous wickedness its wrong
\nIts drunk on the infernal
\nA weakness all along
\nThat poor Lion clothed in agony
\nPunished for indeed
\nTo be hunted so relentlessly
\nWhilst all the time you bleed<\/p>\n
Not an ounce of pity
\nJust an unmerciful desire
\nTo frighten and to weaken
\nAnd to make conditions dire
\nFor the king of beasts
\nA proud boy who clearly
\nWould run and run
\nWith a crossbow bolt
\nStuck in him
\nUnder the hot sun<\/p>\n
What brave conniving hunters
\nAbusive through and through
\nWho when they did catch up with him
\nShot him bad and true
\nThis time with a rifle
\nEnded his sweet life
\nHe died in total agony
\nIn unbelievable strife<\/p>\n
And then what did they do to him
\nAsk yourself and see
\nIf you can get the answer
\nThis is how they see
\nA Lion just as a trophy
\nOn some dusty wall
\nAnd so they hacked his head off
\nAnd skinned him as is their call<\/p>\n
This really famous animal
\nWith GPS collar got
\nPoached by a bunch of arse oles
\nCourageous this is not
\nBig game this is no game
\nIts murder through and through
\nFor some rush of adrenaline
\nWhatever that does to you<\/p>\n
To me its sick and demented
\nIts selfishness and more
\nJust to pull a trigger
\nAnd see it hit the floor
\nPerhaps cry out in anger
\nIn frustration too
\nIts damnable behaviour
\nThere that is my view<\/p>\n
And now all sorts of stories
\nFlying everywhere
\nThey are sorry that they killed the Lion
\nThe fact is they don’t care
\nIf they cared they wouldn’t hunt
\nHunters sadly they
\nKnow nothing of conservation
\nNot when they can pay<\/p>\n
For them its a malignancy
\nA cancer in their soul
\nFor a moment their surge of excitement
\nKind of takes control
\n13 years that precious Lion roamed
\nAnd made his mark
\nAnd now the rainbow bridge opens its doors
\nAnd where Cecil was, its now dark<\/p>\n
His aura was resplendent
\nHe was famous and he was strong
\nHe wore his GPS collar
\nMarked he was all along
\nHumans made him what he was
\nAnd, inevitably
\nHumans gunned him down
\nThe fame and the infamy<\/p>\n
Apparently the head and skin
\nHas been confiscated so
\nCecil’s head will not adorn
\nThe lodge it will not go
\nOff to Minnesota and hang up on some wall
\nThat at least is something
\nFor this debacle does appal<\/p>\n
Hunters are an anathema
\nTheir minds are shot away
\nThe industry supporting their madness
\nToo I’d say
\nAgain its about money
\nAnd profit margins, they
\nClearly make a killing
