A young child shakes so violently
\nAppalled and clearly petrified
\nShe witnessed a goat slaughtered
\nIts head sliced off and now on its side
\nKicking its legs swept the ground
\nIts eyes still blinking and the sound
\nOf death was clearly everywhere
\nThe festival of dark despair<\/p>\n
Horrified she stood aghast
\nHaunted by what was a blast
\nOf the macabre the direful state
\nThe terror ridden dread and fate
\nSo many animals came to be
\nTogether in the field where we
\nWitness the butchers the fearsome tribe
\nDecapitate and then imbibe<\/p>\n
The aura all that sinful stuff
\nThe panic flinching it was tough
\nTo cope with living seeing these
\nMurderous evils done with ease
\nA festival of violent deeds
\nWhere hopelessness in fact succeeds
\nWould she ever live to see
\nAnother goat in fact roam free
\nShe clearly had been through a war
\nAnd terror crazed with all the gore<\/p>\n
Southern Nepal and the Gadhimai
\nFestival let me tell you why
\nReligion is a frail excuse
\nFor what is clearly such abuse<\/p>\n
Rats and pigeons goats and rams
\nPigs and buffaloes devotees trams
\nAnd carts and buses for hours on end
\nThey were brought to be killed and to somehow send
\nThe goddess Gadhimai their messages so
\nShe Needed the deaths and as they did grow
\nThe great lake of blood the discarded heads
\nAll of that heartache we feel from our beds<\/p>\n
Wicked are the devotees wicked are the racketeers
\nContract meat sales feed the fears
\nFutility of life appears
\nAnimal abuse is rife dispatched with blunt and any knife
\nAround will do to cut and thrust
\nTo leave the world with such disgust
\nAll the hope is in their eyes
\nLife appears the big surprise
\nAnd then its done their head chopped free
\nEyes still blinking peacefully
\nLegs still searching looking for
\nAnother life outside the door<\/p>\n
Blood its everywhere to see
\nGreat lakes of it their destiny
\nIs who knows where they lay alone
\nPiles of heads and not one groan
\nExcept from the children who are forced to see
\nAnd it will be with them for eternity
\nHow can a child ever sleep knowing they
\nWitnessed the slaughter of thousands that day<\/p>\n
all sorts of scams going on in the sun
\nSlicing up dried meat when selling is done
\nMaking some money thats what some do
\nIts not religion its not what drew
\nThe hundreds and thousands to travel this far
\nTo witness such carnage that would inwardly scar
\nEvery soul there, every devotee
\nWho offered to Gadhimai a life painfully<\/p>\n
This is a festival sickening so
\nA fun fair of sorts and sacred I know
\nFor some but for most just a place
\nTo let off some steam,to indulge to disgrace
\nSuch insensitive people numbed down and lost
\nThis is the truth what religion has cost
\nThe people, the animals around these parts
\nThey all have forsaken true life and true hearts<\/p>\n
A festival of fanatics drawn from the poor
\nThey are believers and really the door
\nIs open but no one is ever inside
\nOf The so called true priests of course its denied
\nThey live with their script they have slipped
\nBackwards they
\nAre finding the abyss and wanting to stay
\nThe victims are the animals and the children who be
\nBrought by their parents to witness and see<\/p>\n
The eyes of the world are sickened we know
\nWe kneel down and vomit as the numbers grow
\nThe wretchedness and the defeatism here
\nIts so irreversible as is the fear
\nThat rises to draw down the innocent mind
\nThe timid the shy ones and those who are blind
\nThe deceit and the hatred the evil the dark
\nThe thrashing of steel that of course leaves its mark
\nSoulful heads everywhere eyes staring out
