Mahler 6 at the Barbican was amazing
\nThough people speak of “darkness” I saw Light
\nContemplation with romantic overtones
\nThe great Austrian Landscape was in sight
\nThe mountains and the freedom just to persevere
\nWalking in those realms, that made him feel
\nThe glockenspiel, the Cowbells in the distance
\nTwo harps, and a huge hammer that was real
\nA mighty sound to perhaps mimic a wood axe
\nPictures he was painting pictures, and
\nSplashes of rich colour, filled my every thought
\nDrums and Cymbals,liberation spanned
\nThe mountains, I could see them
\nThe freedom that he’d conjured
\nfrom the sound
\nSweeping strings his outpouring around
\nPensive, melancholic was my take on it
\nExpansive. the piano brushed aside
\nA Celeste, A whip and melodic horns a singing
\nEchoes of the places he could hide
\nExcitement, rapturous moods an Arian power base
\nSadness and a reticence to play
\nI come back to a contemplative desiring
\nWhimsical in parts he tries to say
\nPoetic and a satisfaction following
\nLike fragrant Hazel blossoms out in May
\nElation struck from sorrow
\nClearly it did borrow
\nA marvellous half hour ending anyway
\nHeralding a glorious achievement
\nAn exultation almost to the soul
\nLamenting on his lot
\nHow life had clearly not
\nDealt him the richness and real control<\/p>\n
The conductor gave it everything
\nCzech born he was great
\nHe eased out of the gifted one’s
\nGems at such a rate
\nThe audience and I was one
\nWere overjoyed to hear
\nA wondrously moving Symphony
\nWith such passion, it was clear
\nNicholas Korth invited me
\nI came to hear his horn
\nExpressive, of such quality
\nLike fields of waving corn
\nAs sunlight shines down onto them
\nThe psyche shot away
\nAustria was there before me
