For an elephant to drop dead
\nFrom exhaustion
\nShows clear evidence
\nThat mentally as well
\nAs physically this soul
\nGave up the fight to carry on
\nAnd this as much a human failing
\nFor the tourists sat upon
\nWorking this poor creature
\nBeyond his hearts desire
\nCrippling him so savagely
\nCreating that great fire
\nWithin his heart and lungs
\nAnd brain and making him realise
\nThe futility of carrying on
\nIn his world that seemed so dire<\/p>\n
Weakened and deflated flagging at every pace
\nOverstrained and really pained
\nEverywhere he put his feet
\nHe felt so very helpless
\nHe just could not compete
\nAnd so he lost his balance
\nAnd fell upon the slope
\nCarrying heavy tourists
\nWhy should he want to cope
\nIt all seemed much too much for him
\nEspecially in the heat
\nAnd so he closed his eyes and died
\nThe job just had him beat<\/p>\n
To tourists going out to Vietnam
\nAnd Thailand please
\nUnderstand that elephants
\nFor them it’s not a breeze
\nThey are not meant to carry you
\nOn this hilly ground
\nAnd working hard there all their lives
\nIn stress they are surely drowned
\nDon’t be such a nuisance
\nLet the elephants be
\nResting for a period
