We never imagined it possible
\nIt was though of course our desire
\nWe have languished in what was
\nA dark Buddhist cell
\nOur spirits were low and were dire
\nThe world at large they had been hoodwinked
\nImagining we were at rest
\nIn a paradise state
\nBut that was all force
\nIt was prison we were captives
\nAt best<\/p>\n
It was no laughing matter
\nDespondent were we
\nJoyless and unnerved
\nAnd so dreary
\nSubdued and crestfallen
\nLamenting all day
\nHeart sick and unhappy
\nAnd made to pay<\/p>\n
With monks
\nPeople think our existence
\nWould be idyllic
\nBut how we did pay
\nSuch sorrow, displeased
\nOur tearfulness there
\nWet eyed and mournful
\nAnd cast to despair<\/p>\n
A false sense of overture
\nThe permeation
\nIt was our elegy
\nNot our salvation
\nA wail of woe
\nPathetic, were we
\nLost souls in fact
\nLeft to grizzle and be<\/p>\n
Many of you came
\nTo pat us and see
\nYou paid the monks money
\nThat seemed to be
\nThe future of us
\nJust increasing our woe
\nA long guarantee
\nWith no place to go<\/p>\n
But the activists out there
\nOn Facebook and such
\nThey became the informed
\nThey were not out of touch
\nThey could feel when we weeped
\nWhen we whimpered and moaned
\nHating the handling
\nThey wrote and they phoned
\nAnd the government heard this
\nThey listened they knew
\nWhat was happening here
\nIt just was all true<\/p>\n
We were left here to languish
\nOur spirits were low
\nWe felt suicidal
\nThe misery show
\nOur disgust for life
\nOur solemn embrace
\nOur lugubrious status
\nAll over the place<\/p>\n
And we have been granted
\nA freedom at last
\nFrom this so called temple
\nWe have got a blast
\nOf fortune
\nOf cheerfulness
\nAnd vitality
\nOur sparkle has come
\nWith vivacity
\nFarewell to those monks
\nThe jailers of fate
\nGood day to the jovial
\nBuoyant and great
\nLighthearted debonair
\nGenial few
\nWho have granted us favours
\nBoth lovely and new<\/p>\n
What a relief
\nOur faith is restored
\nRefreshed on a path
\nWe shan’t be ignored
\nNot any more
\nOur consolation
\nFreedom to roam
