Habitat loss and human control
\nIs a terrible twin
\nTo the elephant soul
\nDisease in captivity
\nBecomes the thing
\nIn the wilds they are safer
\nFor Nature does bring
\nProtection that’s it in a nutshell
\nAnd we
\nSee healthier animals
\nOut there running free<\/p>\n
Human involvement raises the stakes
\nThe Asian community
\nHas what it takes
\nThere are now fewer
\nAnd humans appear
\nTo be closer to them
\nAnd so now it’s clear
\nTB both forms
\nAre rampant today
\nIt isn’t a new disease
\nBut it is way
\nMore serious now
\nAs bacterium has
\nEvolved
\nit’s resistant to drugs
\nWhich has not been
\nResolved<\/p>\n
Captivity clearly is bad
\nI surmise
\nNo natural immunity
\nSo the demise
\nOf many more elephants
\nTakes place today
\nHumans you see
\nThey get in the way
\nElephant handlers
\nOften are sick
\nTransmission is easy
\nThe arithmetic
\nSimple poor diets
\nCloser quarters and heat
\nPoor diagnosis
\nSo it’s harder to beat
\nThe drugs are expensive
\nTreatment takes a year
\nThere are side effects too
\nCreating more fear
\nSerious side effects
\nCosting a lot
\nA misdiagnosis
\nSo many have got
\nTB it appears
\nSome 13 per cent
\nIn the wild it’s not common
\nClearly wasn’t meant<\/p>\n
When we get involved with the wild ones
\nWe see
\nAll sorts of problems
\nWe are the key
\nEndangered elephants
\nCannot afford
\nAll of this contact
\nIt is no reward
\nCircuses zoos working elephants they
\nWould be far better off in the jungles
\nAway
\nFrom selfish employers
\nWho struggle to be
\nSupporting the elephants
\nAs naturally<\/p>\n
The inexpectation that elephants
\nFeel
\nAfter being captured
\nIt’s very real
\nAn unnatural habitat
\nAnd poor diet too
\nMust affect their immune system
\nThat’s clearly true
\nCarted around made to walk everywhere
\nOn man made concrete
\nIt just isn’t fair
\nEmotionally elephants
\nSuffer a lot
\nHuman involvement
\nAnd a lot they have got<\/p>\n
They are unprepared
\nFor a new life like this
\nWhether working in circus
\nIt cannot be bliss
\nUnwarned disconcerted
\nDumbfounded we see
\nThem struggle around
\nTreated mercilessly
\nTheir immune systems are
\nUnder fire
\nClose contact with humans
\nThe air can be dire
\nDisgruntled disillusioned
\nDisappointed we know
\nThey do feel let down by us
\nOut of the flow<\/p>\n
Circus is alien totally so
\nTheir inventiveness there
\nIs given a blow
\nFor them it’s absurdity
\nStuck in a ring
\nDoing dubious trucks
\nThat in essence bring
\nMeaningless drivel
\nIt’s not what they do
\nIt may please the audience
\nIt may please you
\nBut they are pissed off by it
\nThey can’t understand
\nAnd they are then tortured
\nBy man by his hand
\nBull hooks the tool of the monster
\nWe see
\nSmashed into their flanks
\nTill they scream till they be
\nLame in such agony
\nBroken down they
\nStand on their hind legs
\nAnd trumpet away<\/p>\n
Untruths are rife
\nIn the circus of fear
\nWhat goes on behind closed doors
\nIsn’t that clear
\nManipulation is evident, they
\nAre given a hiding
\nMost every day
\nDon’t you feel for these giants
\nTorn out of the field
\nLost in a caged truck
\nThey are concealed
\nIn a total hell hole
\nBashed and chained in a cage
\nTill their feeble and sick
\nAnd just wiped off the page<\/p>\n
