A mountain moves
\nAhead of us
\nStartled perhaps by
\nThat tell tale rumble
\nIn the jungle
\nAnd that enormous eye<\/p>\n
A family paid a bounty
\nTo see the majestic soul
\nCrash down with its tremendous weight
\nCreating it’s own hole
\nIt’s a quarter of a century
\nSince it rose to be
\nMore than just a tiny soul
\nFitted out and free<\/p>\n
Look at those massive tusks it has
\nAnd it’s great head standing proud
\nIt trumpets it’s pure message
\nTo those now in the crowd
\nA family of canned hunters
\nCompassion less are they
\nThey have paid their fee alas
\nAnd the elephant today<\/p>\n
Is going to meet his maker
\nOn the back of a bullet that will
\nSlam into his noble brain
\nAnd surely his blood spill
\nWhat is the use of murdering
\nA rarity
\nHow can that be thrilling
\nIt’s criminality
\nA life force ends abruptly
\nUnjustifiably
\nA family grieves such sadness
\nUncontrollably<\/p>\n
A so called hunting family
\nA wife a mother too
\nA child how does that child feel
\nKnowing a life is through
\nNot because of illness or accident
\nBut because
\nHer father wants a photograph
\nAnd she can say she was<\/p>\n
There beside her parents
\nAnd can Remember all her days
\nHow her father gunned him down
\nAnd exactly how that plays
\nOut now in her psyche
\nAnd imagine how it felt
\nTo have a bullet in you
\nWhen the wrong card has been dealt<\/p>\n
It is a shameless pastime
\nIt’s unrighteous and profane
\nTo abandon what is moral strength
\nLetting wickedness just rain
\nDown on you from a great height
\nVenal and depraved
\nBy the canned hunting agency
\nWho in hindsight should have saved<\/p>\n
That beautiful animal<\/p>\n
To be wild and free
