Bertram John Hillary
\none of the, first settlers
\nwith his brother Harry
\nbuilt a boat shed
\non the beach, right here<\/p>\n
fished and plied their
\nwares they did
\nreally in a desperate bid
\nto beat the great depression
\nand the fear<\/p>\n
the blueness of that ocean
\nthe blueness of that sky
\nthe sheltered nature of the harbour
\nwhere the boats could lie<\/p>\n
the vastness of the ocean
\na store house he could see
\nthe great abundance out there
\nit was the place to be<\/p>\n
later when the army
\nduring manoeuvres it was claimed
\nthey called the beach
\n“Hillary’s” and that’s why
\nit was named <\/p>\n
In 1988
\nthe state decided to inject
\nsome money in developing the site
\nnot circumspect<\/p>\n
at all they seemed to realise
\nthat this was a perfect site
\nand so the new boat harbour
\nwas born
\nand they’ve been proved right<\/p>\n
It is everything to everyone
\nFor a lovely family day
\nJust North of Perth
\nsome 20 minute drive
\nand your on your way<\/p>\n
The Indian Ocean beckons
\nwhere yachts and boats do ply
\nwhere everyone is welcome
\nunderneath the sky<\/p>\n
Parking, all the parking
\non site completely free
\na pretty little still water beach
\nfor the whole family<\/p>\n
places to discover
\namenities to share
\nunusual shops and restaurants
\nYes, everything is there<\/p>\n
everything is thought about
\nplaygrounds amusements for
\nthe children
\nits got everything
\nyou couldn’t ask for more<\/p>\n
I just loved sitting
\non the wall
\njust above the beach
\nwatching Michael playing
\nnever out of reach<\/p>\n
ice creams, lollies cold drinks
\nyou can sit and watch the sea
\nsunbathe,wander here and there
\njog, and well just be<\/p>\n
relaxed, about the day you spend
\nat Hillary’s and know
\nIts history is no mystery
\nas my poem here does show<\/p>\n
And I am sure that Bertram
\nfeels the happiness now there
\nthe laughter of the children
\nand the sweetness of the air<\/p>\n
The ocean ever plentiful
\na splendid paradise
\nwhich is still being improved each year
\nwhich will only, entice<\/p>\n
People from all around the place
\nto go and weekend there
\nwith apartments to be rented
\nits the answer to a prayer<\/p>\n
for older folks, and families
\nfor its so welcoming, and
\nits clean, well run and
\nwith lots of sun
