\nThe buildings bare
\nA solitary truck with open doors
\nAnd, no human beings there
\nChernobyl
\nIn proximity
\nHeavily radiated
\nNot the place to ever be
\nThe cost of nuclear energy
\nThe loss of life
\nOur destiny<\/p>\n
Water rivers they still flow
\nNot much else though as we know
\nWhat we feel is adversity
\nSilence a severity
\nAn acquiescence everywhere
\nThey left this place
\nIn such despair<\/p>\n
Disciplined and compliant they
\nPacked whatever and went away
\nAfter it happened what could they do
\nConform their wealth lost from view
\nThe trees keep growing
\nDo the birds sing
\nDo rats still frequent
\nThe local spring<\/p>\n
Are there fish
\nAre the feral boys
\nStill being born
\nWith their own sweet joys<\/p>\n
The spontaneity of it all
\nThe peace and quiet
\nSome buildings tall
\nRusting looking the worst for wear
\nIs it that people are never there<\/p>\n
The sun still shines
\nThe rain still falls
\nThe light is bright
\nBut nobody calls
\nNobody walks there anymore
\nNobody visits the general store<\/p>\n
It’s kind of dead
\nNot a place to go
\nJust send the bots
\nLet the cameras show
\nThose of us further down the coast
\nAway from the radioactive host<\/p>\n
That smothers us all
\nThat promises too
\nThreaten and kill those
\nWho would do
\nThe impossible
\njust to come and see
\nThat would be it

Has promised rewards
\nOf the gravest kind
\nWhich clearly

Are there regrets
\nOf nuclear power
\nOf the immense losses

\nThere is never insurance
