Stone Henge is where we are standing
\nAn iconic circle and we
\nOn this hallowed ground must wonder
\nJust now where we be
\nWhat now lies still under
\nWhere each of us stand
\nAre there ancient chapels
\nUnderneath this chalky land
\nPrehistoric pits and alignments
\nBurial mounds that share
\nOminous retribution
\nIf we tunnel there
\nJust to ease our traffic problems
\nWe might actually try
\nAnd disturb all those leys and lines
\nOf energy close by
\nPossibly 3000 years BC
\nA temple some have said
\nWas built under the henge where we
\nNow stand and the long time dead
\nWill utter their own cries of woe
\nIf we dare to feel
\nThat we can move them from the place
\nAnd suddenly reveal
\nThe boundless ancient energies
\nPerhaps the space bound one
\nYule is celebrated here
\nThe rebirth of the sun
\nThe longest night and the shortest day
\nIn the wheel of life
\nThat just rolls away
\nHear the ghostly cry
\nOf the woebegone
\nWhen the diggers start
\nOut there upon
\nThe 303 to Glastonbury
\nTo Exeter and further on
\nHas no bearing on all of this
\nFor herein lies a place upon
\nTween the planets and beyond the stars
\nWhere the ancient
\nGod may lie
\nIn bountiful surrender
\nUnderneath the frosty sky<\/p>\n
To the Druids who imagine
\nIt is a good idea
\nMy thoughts are that it isn’t
\nAnd will never bring us cheer
\nWe must route the road another way
\nThis iconic circle should
\nStand the test of time my friends
\nWherein lies only good
\nBut disturb it at your peril
\nFor therein we shall find
\nDisturbances that go beyond
\nAny thinking mind
\nThe darkness it may sever
\nThe passages to where
\nThe footings of the diggers need
