it gives them the power<\/p>\n
the great power of scent<\/p>\n
as such when the war dogs<\/p>\n
yes when they went<\/p>\n
off to Vietnam to the jungles<\/p>\n
they could<\/p>\n
sense and would smell<\/p>\n
much more than we could<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
a thousand times better<\/p>\n
so subtle so keen<\/p>\n
they were our 4 legged<\/p>\n
protection machine<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
but they were not machine like<\/p>\n
so sensitive they<\/p>\n
could smell the Viet cong<\/p>\n
way way \u00a0away<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
and never were wrong<\/p>\n
the German shepherds<\/p>\n
they really \u00a0did know<\/p>\n
and as we got to know them<\/p>\n
how they moved did show<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
their handlers really<\/p>\n
for what they did do<\/p>\n
was sense all the trip wires<\/p>\n
when we had no clue<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
the sounds of the breeze<\/p>\n
on the wires they could hear<\/p>\n
they would stop sharp and turn<\/p>\n
and for us it was clear<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
we became so attached to our dogs<\/p>\n
to our friend<\/p>\n
we fed them we slept with them<\/p>\n
right till the end<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
they knew how we ticked<\/p>\n
and we also knew<\/p>\n
sentry and guards<\/p>\n
they were all true<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
they saved us they dragged us<\/p>\n
out of harms way<\/p>\n
they became victims<\/p>\n
yes night and day<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
that great sense of smell<\/p>\n
and good hearing too<\/p>\n
saved many a soldier<\/p>\n
lost, very few<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
handlers<\/p>\n
will never forget what their dogs<\/p>\n
did for them out there<\/p>\n
through swamps and through bogs<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
up rocky climes through rivers these boys<\/p>\n
gave us pure spirit and<\/p>\n
brought back the joys<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
that we all, had forgotten<\/p>\n
out there in green hell<\/p>\n
with the cong up your arse<\/p>\n
and the vilest of smell<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
so many handlers realized they<\/p>\n
were closer with their dogs<\/p>\n
and so everyday<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
the dog and the handler<\/p>\n
learned a great deal<\/p>\n
learned how to think more<\/p>\n
and how to feel<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
and many of these men<\/p>\n
had not before<\/p>\n
had any relationship with dogs<\/p>\n
they were sure<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Vietnam brought down upon them<\/span><\/p>\n such stuff<\/p>\n that without their dogs<\/p>\n it would have been \u00a0rough<\/p>\n <\/p>\n such loyalty transferred from canine<\/p>\n to those<\/p>\n wounded and injured<\/p>\n they \u00a0did \u00a0juxtapose<\/p>\n <\/p>\n they stayed together<\/p>\n till the danger did pass<\/p>\n this was a friendship<\/p>\n it became first class<\/p>\n <\/p>\n and when it was over<\/p>\n and the men had to go<\/p>\n their dogs their best friends<\/p>\n what did they know<\/p>\n <\/p>\n they were just useless<\/p>\n the army was mad<\/p>\n abandoning everything<\/p>\n it was so sad<\/p>\n <\/p>\n dogs were equipment<\/p>\n they didn’t care<\/p>\n they got no medals<\/p>\n nothing to share<\/p>\n <\/p>\n just stuck in some pound<\/p>\n to be eaten by those<\/p>\n Vietnamese<\/span><\/p>\n or even crows<\/p>\n <\/p>\n yes we were upset<\/p>\n frantic as well<\/p>\n leaving our 4 legged buddies in hell<\/p>\n <\/p>\n the american government<\/p>\n THEY HAD NO HEART<\/p>\n and we couldn’t do anything<\/p>\n from the start<\/p>\n <\/p>\n so many forms no<\/p>\n anyway what does the ministry know<\/p>\n stuck behind desks pushing papers about<\/p>\n they had no idea \u00a0and if we did shout#<\/p>\n <\/p>\n they just said pipe down they are not coming back<\/p>\n that’s when the shit hit the fan<\/p>\n and the flack<\/p>\n <\/p>\n we had to take it on board<\/p>\n and just leave<\/p>\n the dogs were heartbroken<\/p>\n our hearts on our sleeve<\/p>\n <\/p>\n but we were on orders that was our lot<\/p>\n and came back<\/p>\n and knew \u00a0most would be for the pot<\/p>\n <\/p>\n that’s what they do sadly those souls<\/p>\n forgotten heroes<\/p>\n hanging on poles<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" the Jacobson organ 2 tiny pits nothing to speak of but such precious bits the olfactory system is better by far and in dogs as a matter of fact its a star it gives them the power the … Continue reading
