A curious mist of sound hung over rollrights
\nBehold the drums were reaching out to say
\nSilently we joined the pagan circle
\nA curl of shadowy shapes just yesterday
\nA fire burned bright it’s flames licked ever higher
\nThe light was fading fast across the way
\nThe whispering knights were riding off to Compton
\nHeralding the end of one long day<\/p>\n
The speaking stick was moving on the far side
\nWe joined to breath and fury from those who
\nWere giving it some welly from their belly
\nA song a bardic ode which one are you
\nWitches hats and pagan cloaks and bright
\nIllumination
\nJungle lions and skeletons
\nAll filled with pure elation<\/p>\n
Then we watched a ritual of offerings to the fire
\nThis and that and wine and salt
\nAs flames licked ever higher
\nThen the names of those to be remembered
\nOn a scroll
\nwere offered of the embers
\nA flare a cascade of soul<\/p>\n
Then the drummers took their stand
\nCaterpillar tea
\nNot the blend that I am use to
\nNot the tea for me
\nOthers didn’t comprehend the lyrics to be sure
\nOf what to sing about and so we drummed
\nFor evermore<\/p>\n
The light by this time had gone down
\nAnd the moon was fighting hard
\nWith waves of clouds all trying
\nTo knock the moon off guard
\nClearly it was a struggle
\nOne moon lots of clouds
\nBut in the course of a little time
\nThe ugly smoky shrouds
\nWere gone and the moon was shining
\nGiving us her light
\nBut the ground was cutting up a lot
\nA proper starlit night<\/p>\n
We left the Samhain circle
\nBy now the cold was set
\nWe had got wet there earlier
\nAnd hadn’t really let
\nThe blood come back to our fingers
\nAnd our toes were pretty cold
\nSo we went and sat beside the fire
\nAnd in its embers rolled<\/p>\n
This was an opportunity
\nTo meet up many who
\nThe recently departed
\nAnd the ancient ones who do
\nSend their spirits to us
\nAt Samhain every year
\nAnd you could feel their closeness
\nAs you wiped away each tear<\/p>\n
Sparklers and incense were burned
\nTheir starlit light
\nSplashing through directions
\nEach lit up the night
\nThe kings men must have wondered
\nWhat these folk did today
\nBut anyhow protected us
\nOur true respects did pay<\/p>\n
Yule will be at Stonehenge
\nThats something to look forward too
\nTo soak up all that history
\nAnd to come together as we do
\nVeronica resplendent leading the ritual she
\nStands there ever present
\nWith her aura constantly
\nBrighter and regarded
\nEmanating light
\nDrawing in the positive
