The Japanese whale museum in
\nTaiji speaks to me
\nThe dolphin it says on a board
\nIs the cockroach of the sea<\/p>\n
This bringer of great light
\nTo all the oceans that we see
\nIs more at home in the darkness
\nIn the foul putridity<\/p>\n
Scurrying from place to place
\nCarrying disease
\nApparently this is the way
\nSo say the Japanese<\/p>\n
Let me add my understanding
\nOf the dolphin tribe
\nA source of light if anything
\nThat’s how I’d describe<\/p>\n
A luminary flashing through the surf
\nBelow us they
\nLove to leap in sunlight
\nAnd in cold rainbows play<\/p>\n
Intelligent beyond their race
\nThoughtful to a tee
\nCaring of so many species
\nHelpful to they be<\/p>\n
Friendly extra sensory
\nPerception in their sight
\nPsychical subliminal
\nAnd a consciousness so bright<\/p>\n
Able to converse in many languages
\nFor they
\nWork out their pod dialects
\nAnd use them come what may<\/p>\n
Think about the cockroach
\nIt’s value is that they
\nAre pretty well nigh perfect
\nIn the light of day<\/p>\n
They prefer the darkness
\nThe heat the dirt the grime
\nThey scurry in their diseased places
\nIn fat and grease they climb<\/p>\n
Miscreant’s that carry on
\nIn crevices and places
\nDarkness is their master
\nIt puts them through their paces<\/p>\n
As for our friends the dolphins
\nIt’s light that they enjoy
\nWell founded and well grounded
\nAnd certain to employ<\/p>\n
A sixth sense and such sonar
\nA clairvoyance even they
\nDemonstrate their psychic skills
\nWith their logical display<\/p>\n
I can’t imagine any tribe less
\nLikened to each other
\nThan talking in the same breath
\nOf the dolphin and roach mother<\/p>\n
They seem so many miles apart
\nBut not to the Japanese
\nWho consider them as relatives
\nAnd relate to them with ease<\/p>\n
Could this be the reason
\nWhy their disrespect is high
\nDespite their training potential
\nAnd their flesh I wonder why<\/p>\n
They torture them and slaughter them
\nWith malice and such pain
\nAnd Taiji is a place that most
\nWho know treat with disdain<\/p>\n
Their radiance is everywhere
\nTheir vibrance in the sea
\nPods of many relatives stay together
\nFree<\/p>\n
Trusting and creative
\nHunting as they do
\nSharing snaring daring
\nPreparing worlds anew<\/p>\n
Sensitive and thoughtful
\nProtective all the way
\nLoving of each other
\nDiscovering each day<\/p>\n
Playful and demonstrative
\nIn everything they do
\nDemonstrating techniques
\nClearly they are true<\/p>\n
The Japanese to me today
\nI think have got it wrong
\nThey want to eat the dolphins
\nThey tHink that they belong<\/p>\n
In the food chain sadly
\nAnd work out ways to fool
\nCalling on their emotions
\nWhich they try to overrule<\/p>\n
To take on tHeir sensibility
\nTheir thoughtfulness their care
\nAnd reward them with the evil cove
\nAnd the tarps which they must share<\/p>\n
The pithing tool the agony
\nAnd of course they are aware<\/p>\n
They bleed out and they have to see
\nTheir family members dying there <\/p>\n
suffering terribly
\nThey cry they shudder
\nAgony the sea runs oh so red
\nThey drown there in each other’s blood
\nThe pod goes down in horrid flames
\nIn what is the great flood<\/p>\n
The Japanese have fishermen
\nWorking from Taiji
\nWith a hatred for the dolphins
\nThe wild souls of tHe sea<\/p>\n
Jealous of their freedom
\nAnd their harshness they pass on
\nA pitilessness for earthlings
\nUntil they all are gone<\/p>\n
Tyrants in their capture boats
\nAnd they are austere
\nIntolerant and heavy handed
\nInstilling so much fear<\/p>\n
They view with indignation
\nThe cries from those who say
\nLeave the dolphin tribes alone
\nWe remonstrate each day<\/p>\n
To us they are never roaches
\nThey are angels of the wild
\nBohemian of character
\nActing like a child<\/p>\n
But being philosophical
\nAnd creative to a tee
\nUntrammelled and unshackled
\nGypsies of the sea<\/p>\n
Unhindered and unrestrained
\nTheir freedom none can see
\nThe Japanese alas for them
\nHave lost all lenity<\/p>\n
They somehow have no clemency
\nForbearance isn’t there
\nAnd The dolphins sadly take the wrath
