Winding through the Nullabor
\non the India Pacific
\nsnaking this way
\nsnaking that way
\na journey so terrific<\/p>\n
the sunlight on the locomotive
\npulling these great carriages
\nsends great shafts of light
\nacross the plain
\nTravellers are being hauled
\nfar across the continent
\nFrom Perth in West Australia
\nto Adelaide in the South
\nand back again<\/p>\n
across great swathes of bush
\nand limestone karst
\nthis significant hugely
\nimportant wonderland
\nwhere reptiles birds and
\nplant life stand aghast<\/p>\n
At what is happening
\nto their precious
\nhomeland
\nNullabor essentially “no trees”
\nbut a wealth of
\nblue bush and salt bush plants
\ndrought and salt resistant
\nif you please<\/p>\n
birds and smaller reptiles
\nmake their home there
\nand in the myriad caves
\nunder the ground
\nwhere many rare plants also live
\nthe treasure is their worth
\nIt has such riches for the true environment
\non Earth<\/p>\n
A wilderness
\nwith so much positive gain
\nhOW Many say their bored with what is sameness
\nSitting in the comfort of The train<\/p>\n
I have crossed the nullabor
\nthey tell themselves
\nHad you walked it
\nyou might have been aware
\nThat what lies under
\nthis vast plain of limestone
\nIs also full of life
\nand wants to share<\/p>\n
Tourism is one thing
\nbut the Nullabor
\nhas to be protected from it all
\nThe India Pacific gives us all a chance to see it
\nbut having seen it
\nwe must heed the call<\/p>\n
