tunnels

that were sunk into the soil

and carried the precious water

from the Tor in a snake like coil

supposedly the underworld

created a huge cave

and in 1872 this place

was built to save

some natural caves were dug out

to improve the wondrous course

and the chalice well too seems

to mingle somewhere underneath

the white spring for we see

some iron now in the water

and so possibly

the Well House Spring

are unique and as such we know

feel the magic emanating

around that place

below

hear that rampant

water forced up and on its way

the Tor has borne such surges

and apparently does play

a significant part in the origin

and the purity we know

15,000 gallons per day

that they have to show

an average output constant

and a pure and pleasant flow

Avalon gave birth to what we know and feel

and share

a highly mineralised bounty

that is seemingly always there

torn out of the limestone

by the immense pressure build

and bubbling through the fissures

enough in fact to yield

a magical devotion

a creation of those who

have sat inside the reservoir

since 1872

and felt the amazing peacefulness

the profundity, the mind

the spirit and the images

that seemingly do find

their way into one’s labyrinth

of cells inside one’s brain

the meditative conception

the all seeing eye again

relieves one of the musing

in a metaphysical sense

the curved brick roof the candles

the altars, the suspense

is shared by all who know

who come to work their rituals

or answer to the flow

the hollyhocks that generate

a paleness for the cause

sweep into the sky above the reservoir to pause

a while to tempt the honey bees

on their meanderings and

pull up the minerals from the source

to permeate the land

The Mendips share the fortune

the Chalice Well does too

the iron that leaches constant

and really soaks into

the water giving off a blood like quality

and hue

and both may come together

underneath the white spring too

myriad courses follow

down they flush their way

through porous sandstone cave systems

sculpting as they play

host to rock and mineral

those subterranean souls

influence the mythic

the Avalonic poles

an epiphany of sorts

is felt by those who wander by

who sit inside the dampness

or possibly those high

on mystery and sanctity

who know the watery power

who feel the cleansing nature

absorbing it every hour

Glastonbury steeped in legend

is clearly a dwelling place

for magic and for sorcery

which does now bear its face

the road that runs so close to

this calm white spring place

along with this gates are guarding

the value of all thats there

I sat there on the altar

feeling an eminent force

the whole historical allegory

a really potent force

that whole great driving energy

and what is a cavernous roar

and the flow of distant memories

that come down from the TOR

in the mists of time

an understanding born out of those souls

who watched and worked the happenings

and understood their roles

many through the ages have come

and drunk and felt

the majesty of energy

that the goddess must have dealt

the constancy of flowing

the ever knowing way

the coolness of the fathomable passages

that play

so much in the meanderings

of limestone encrusted rocks

of mosses and of lichens

and the coombes that fill the blocks

behold the white spring sends forth

a cacophony for we

can taste the waters of the earth

and its sweet symphony

the music of the ancients

the sound of each by- gone age

the mineral rich deposits

and the musing of each sage

I was there with Claudia

the best friend that I know

who introduced me to all this

and I can feel that glow

of life of
