W<\/span>e have the weather forecasts
\nI feel the birds must know
\nMust learn the signs
\nAnd hanker down
\nBefore its starts to snow
\nWell I hope that is the case
\nBecause I am sure you will agree
\nWhen its dark and frosty everywhere
\nThat its not the place to be<\/p>\n

The tits and little robins
\nwho hide in bushes, they
\neven though their metabolism is high
\nI’m sad to say, I do feel for them
\nseriously,clad in their snowy cloak
\nOf bushes with that raging wind
\nIt cannot be a joke<\/p>\n

Those less than hardy specimens
\nWill have flown off, somewhere
\nwarm
\nTheir internal clocks
\nwould have kicked in
\nFor them they hate the storm
\nThe frost that bitter coating
\nThat Jack Frost leaves by night
\nand the wind that takes
\nthe temperature and
\nputs it out of sight<\/p>\n

The water in my water butt
\nand also in my pond is a block
\nof ice
\nwhich can’t be nice
\ntheir is no magic wand
\nfor those out there perching on my hut
\nTis true birds move a lot
\nBut in the freezing cold of day
\nIt feels better in one spot<\/p>\n

Some old church eaves or an old tithe barn
\nand just stay put for a while
\nOut of the draught
\nOut of the wet
\nOn an old leaf pile
\nI know some birds will
\nfreeze to death
\nPoor little souls, I say
\nthe death of those sweet innocents
\nwho sing and warm our way<\/p>\n

when their day brings
\nthem suffering
\nand they ultimately pay
\nIts good to leave
\nsome scraps about for them
\nalong the way
\nFor Winter must be very hard
\nFor The birds on the canal
\nWho welcome this old bearded bard
\nlooking down from the bridge
\nA pal<\/p>\n

Drops some bread,some bits of fat
\nand hear them quack away
\nswimming in the icy water
\nYes, even today
\nUnyet they seem contented
\nThe coots as well appear
\nTo get on with their daily life
\nWhich happens to be here<\/p>\n

Winter’s icy breath though
\nMust take its toll around
\nIt freezes up the water
\nand hardens up the ground
\nThe Squirrels and the Foxes
\nThe Badgers and the Moles
\nMust really feel the icy blasts
\nFor they are thoughtful souls<\/p>\n

They don’t have supermarkets
\nThey have to feed of course
\nAnd so they venture out into
\nPerhaps snow, and gale force
\nWinds, and use their senses
\nto find a meal or two
\nSpare a thought for the earthlings
\nand help them, please will you<\/p>\n

Dress up warm my first class friends
\nTake a bag of food
\nWander down to the old Canal
\nVisit the rapter brood
\nThe outside people those earthlings
\nWho withstand the wintry bite
\nAnd a little bit of help from us
\nWill get them though the night.
