The ashrams and the spiritual
\nflock to the place on earth
\nknown as India where guru’s
\nreally feel their worth
\nbut look first out into the streets
\nonto the trucks that ply
\ntheir weary way through myriads
\nof the poor and you will know why
\nI cite this for your scrutiny
\nand how a Nation does treat
\nits animals especially
\nthose it will not eat
\nin India’s case the holy cow
\nand its babies we call the calves
\nare loaded up like sacks of wood
\nclearly each now starves
\nany loving relationship
\nwith their mothers for they pine
\nwith every cause there ever was
\nfor their sun just didn’t shine<\/p>\n
in India the cow is said to be
\na holy soul
\nbut how many calves now end up
\nas one of the tragic toll
\nlife for them is horrific
\nthe thoughtlessness is rank
\nhear them lowing
\nhear them sighing
\nand its all about the Bank<\/p>\n
They are seen just for their leather
\nits really how to screw
\nsuddenly their holiness
\nis lost in what some do
\nbabies being sacrificed
\nwhere are the guru’s now
\nwhen rupees can be so amassed
\nthe merchants they know how<\/p>\n
shoes and boots and fine coats
\nthe skin of these sad calves
\nso they get a price of sorts
\nbut the merchant men he starves
\nthose with cows to barter
\nand so they need to load
\nmany calves tied up and thrown
\non the truck to ply the road<\/p>\n
topsy turvy on top of each other
\nsquashed some upside down
\nover the dusty uneven roads
\nand far out of the town
\nthe journey is unspeakable
\nits that last journey alone
\nits hellish but the destination
\nif they had ever known<\/p>\n
is sinful to the base extreme
\nfor there they will meet their end
\nwhatever was their frantic dream
\nit quickly does descend
\nreality is nightmarish
\nthe squalor and the pain
\nof a hammer smashed down on your head
\nagain and again and again
\nthen a rusty knife is drawn
\nacross your throat just like a saw
\nimagine the unbelievable
\nand then imagine more<\/p>\n
the agony these babies feel
\nthere are no words to tell
\nexcept I don’t wear leather
\nand respect their life of hell
\nwhat man does to his charges
\nto earn the odd rupee
\nproves to me that India
\nhad better bloody see
\nspiritual not any more
\nnot ever really, they
\nare as backward when it come to it
\nas calling night time day<\/p>\n
when you see them
\nwhen you hear them
\nif you saw them before they died
\nnow they were really spiritual
\na calmness personified
\nand these so called fucking guru’s
\ncould learn a whole lot more
\nfrom being kind to their animals
\nnot the debacle that I saw<\/p>\n
not the torture of the innocent
\nthe unkindness that was there
\nseriously the Indians
\ncan sit cross legged there
\nand pray all day and night
\nas far as I am now concerned
\nand then rough handle baby cows
\nshowing us how much they have learned
\nand clearly it is surface stuff
\nmostly its for show
\nmoney is their god in fact
\nbut the calves themselves do glow
\nwith a purity
\nwith a softness
\nwith a generous regard
\nwhat we must do is help them
\nnot leave this world as scarred<\/p>\n
stop buying any leather
\nthe cheaper stuff in stores
\nfor it represents a baby
\nand a baby that adores
\nlife
\nits so inquisitive
\nits learning and its sweet
\nbut the skin that you call leather
\nis now upon your feet
\nyou walk on that cute baby
\nwho gave its life to you
\nit suffered and its tears
\nare yours
