Time is something
\neverybody shares
\nTime after time
\nof course time waits for no one
\nit can and it helps us climb
\nit tears pieces out of all of us
\nand soulfully can blot
\nsometimes in us, it festers though
\nit helps that we are not
\nforgetful of its energies
\nfor the pages that we turn
\ncan help us and can love us
\nbut can heighten our concern<\/p>\n
Time marches on
\nits now 50 years
\nsome scars are healed, but she
\nhas inward scars
\nso deep that they may never
\never be
\nerased from her
\nsweet spirit
\nas she watched her best friends
\nslain
\ncut down in those vile ribbons
\nof blood and awful pain<\/p>\n
the hatred that
\nwas Birmingham
\nthe world chose to forget
\nforgot it, let it fester on
\nin her it was set
\nthis one sweet girl survivor
\nspent the last 50 years
\nliving with those memories
\nand those ongoing fears<\/p>\n
tears and woeful thoughts
\nthey filled her every waking hour
\nthe world though just forgot her
\ntime though has that power
\nToday we need to honour her
\nwhy today, we be
\nsharing just a little of that
\nawful agony<\/p>\n
when the KKK burst in on her
\nand blew them all away
\nwhen Birmingham was caught
\nup in such hatred and dismay
\nwhen the sweet picture of Jesus
\nwas smashed to kingdom come
\nand shards were then embedded
\nin her leaving her quite numb<\/p>\n
all these years that agony
\nthose memories will be
\nwith her till her dying day
\nthose faces that debris
\nthose evil men whose hatred
\nboiled over on that day
\nand in that house of god
\nthose innocent girls
\nwere blown away<\/p>\n
the world chose to forget her
\nSarah she became
\na cleaner working all hours
\nat 62 the same
\nlaborious work she has to do
\nto keep herself alive
\nand the world must now consider
\nher and help her to survive<\/p>\n
retire her to a place
\nwhere she can benefit and be
\nable to pay the medical bills
\na lot more easily
\nBirmingham forgot her
\nBirmingham alas
\nthe people there affected
\nby time and its morass<\/p>\n
America forgot her
\nthey let her soldier on
\nworking morning noon and night
\nalthough her spirit shone
\nthey taxed her, and they left her
\nin the shadows let her be
\nforgot her like so many others
\nwho had bright eyes to see<\/p>\n
we hear we know her agony
\nand need to help her through
\nwhat has been 50 years
\nof hell and high water yes all through
\nand so we come together now
\nto imagine and to try
\nand offer her retirement
\nand some peace under the sky
\ntime its time to remember her
\ntime its time to care
\ntime its time to show some love
\nfor us to be aware
\njust a little something
