{"id":11473,"date":"2013-09-29T17:22:20","date_gmt":"2013-09-29T17:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=11473"},"modified":"2014-09-23T10:14:15","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T10:14:15","slug":"the-white-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2013\/09\/the-white-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"The White Spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well House Lane<br \/>\nopposite the Chalice Spring<br \/>\nthere sits<br \/>\nan ediface of ancient stone<br \/>\ncrumbing as befits<br \/>\nan ancient pagan monument<br \/>\nit quietly manifests<br \/>\na soulful wistful aura<br \/>\nand therein, it rests<br \/>\na haunting apotheosis<br \/>\na raging rasping stream<br \/>\nthat rushes from the icy bowels<br \/>\ncreating a power theme<br \/>\nsad blue doors locked<br \/>\nhaphazardly<br \/>\na rough totem of sorts<br \/>\nancient brackets broken<br \/>\na token knots and warts<br \/>\ndilapidation offers<br \/>\na chance for eyes to try<br \/>\nand clean up the exterior<br \/>\nnot to wonder why<br \/>\njust to clean the eddies<br \/>\njust to edge the front<br \/>\nbrighten up the aura<br \/>\nand really to confront<br \/>\nthe wild plants taking refuge<br \/>\nwithin the mortar edge<br \/>\na little bit of clearing<br \/>\ndandelion and sedge<br \/>\nthe water out of copper<br \/>\nis fresh and icy cold<br \/>\nfilling up our bottles<br \/>\nquite uncomfortable to hold<br \/>\nwell house lane climbs steadily<br \/>\ntowards the meadow greenery<br \/>\nand up onto the reaches to the Tor<br \/>\nup to the Isle of Avalon<br \/>\nwhere ancient spirits lift the spirit<br \/>\nto where many souls have gone<br \/>\nout across the vast extent of countryside<br \/>\nbeyond the eye of man the sweep and sound<br \/>\nthe wind that pulls the hackles from ones<br \/>\nbody<br \/>\nand brushes violently across the ground<br \/>\ninside and high it whistles<br \/>\na lone drummer sits and pounds his beat<br \/>\nsucking in that frosty breath remembering<br \/>\nthe wisdom of the wild witch who is fleet<br \/>\nof foot and ready to take off<br \/>\nher besom at her side<br \/>\nthe curling of the shadows<br \/>\nand the swirling of her ride<\/p>\n<p>back down paths are slippery<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s water in them hills<br \/>\nancient roots leap forwards<br \/>\nthe walker needs her skills<br \/>\nso easy it would be to fall<br \/>\nand tumble far too far<br \/>\nso easy it would be to fall<br \/>\na knee or head to scar<br \/>\non the tarmac once again<br \/>\nwe reach the old White Spring<br \/>\nsome chortling singers seated there<br \/>\ntrying hard to bring<br \/>\nthe spirits out of hiding<br \/>\nthey&#8217;re sleeping and prevail<br \/>\nsome jollity and some respect<br \/>\nthe throats accept the ale<\/p>\n<p>that thrusting ghostly stream<br \/>\nthat clutches all within its length<br \/>\nsplashing into our world with<br \/>\nall that power and strength<br \/>\nput you ear up to the doors<br \/>\nand soak up all that sound<br \/>\nits coming through the building<br \/>\ndeep from underground<br \/>\nthe spirit of the pagans<br \/>\ncreatively transcends<br \/>\nand captures those now seated<br \/>\na few toe tapping friends<\/p>\n<p>we bade farewell as warriors<br \/>\nover the cattle grid<br \/>\nand into true reality<br \/>\nthe trucks and lorry skid<br \/>\nnarrowness apparent<br \/>\nThe Chalice Well was there<br \/>\nbeing passed by pantecnicon&#8217;s<br \/>\nthat rumble everywhere<br \/>\nGlastonbury knows the modern<br \/>\nage and hears it too<br \/>\nbut sits back in its ancientness<br \/>\nand tries to really do<br \/>\nits own thing laced in mystery<br \/>\nspiritual and more<br \/>\nthe angst is clearly surfacing<br \/>\nfrom up there on the Tor<\/p>\n<p>many souls are coming<br \/>\nbrought here by the feel<br \/>\nsensitively sentient<br \/>\nsoulful to reveal<br \/>\nthe magic that abound&#8217;eth<br \/>\nthat wells up from inside<br \/>\nthat stunning auric treasure<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s felt with every stride<\/p>\n<p># a copy sent to Glastonbury Town Council with a view to reminding them of the clearing up on the walls edges down to the end of the road by the cattle grids a short amount of work but something well done would be seen in a better light by the thousands of tourists who come here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well House Lane opposite the Chalice Spring there sits an ediface of ancient stone crumbing as befits an ancient pagan monument it quietly manifests a soulful wistful aura and therein, it rests a haunting apotheosis a raging rasping stream that &hellip;
