the argument they use against us
\nis one
\nwhere they forget their circumstance
\nthe day is done
\nwhen they cared for their cattle
\nand sold it abroad
\nto a lot of small outlets
\nwho had to afford
\nwhatever prices they quoted and so
\nsome went out of business as most of us know<\/p>\n
what they forget is the wild souls
\nthe wolves. the coyotes the bison
\nthey have to feed themselves they have to be
\neating in season and catch it and see
\nthey get through the seasons as best as they can
\nkeeping away if they can from the man
\nfor he is a dweller of cities
\nand he
\ngets his food from the markets
\nif he’s got money<\/p>\n
The Bison is powerful and marvellously strong
\nthey eat what is fresh
\nwhich cannot be wrong
\nthey were put here to do that
\nand that’s what they do
\nthey don’t get mixed up in man food
\nand they stay
\ntrue to themselves
\ntheir honest nutrition
\non course
\nimmune to diseases
\nwhatever the source<\/p>\n
as for the cattle on ranches
\nthey get
\nthe food that’s prepared by the humans
\nto whet
\ntheir appetites not so much
\nwild green entree
\nmore dried food and pellets
\ndosed up every day
\nwith supplementation their immunity
\nit gets shot away so weak now they be<\/p>\n
brucellosis is something that Bison and Elk
\ncarry
\ntheir wild they eat wild foods and they
\nare feared by the ranchers for infecting their cattle
\nwhich can cost them for they then feed them hay
\nand hay is expensive in quarantine
\n12 weeks of hay, they prefer
\nto feed them on all the cheap stuff they are used to
\nnow I suppose you concur<\/p>\n
the ranchers sell beef to the markets
\nthe great corporations so strong
\nthey dictate the price that they buy beef at
\nof course they are powerful and its wrong
\nno matter what overheads they will
\npay what they think they will pay
\nso 12 weeks of hay makes the ranchers say
\nthe wild Bison they have to kill<\/p>\n
Yellowstone saves them but when it gets cold
\nand snow covers pastures they need
\nto leave the great park and go out in the dark
\ninto Montana to feed
\nand thats when the conflict grow bigger
\nthat’s when the ranchers show fear
\nthey don’t want the Bison sniffing around
\nbringing their sicknesses here<\/p>\n
so they organize shooting them
\nwhich is of course wrong
\nbut they don’t understand
\nthere’s been no transmission
\nfrom Bison to cattle
\nthese fears are false, its a band
\nof people that want them all out of the way
\nlike wolf haters they do abound
\nthe Elk has passed disease to cattle I hear
\nbut its Bison they don’t want around<\/p>\n
they talk of ideals and of livelihoods
\nbut really they are in a cleft stick
\ncontrolled by the big corporations
\nwho really do get on their wick
\ncutting their margins a’sunder
\nand leaving them little to use
\nbut killing wild Bison is never a reason
\nstand up to those who abuse<\/p>\n
you its the corporate mayhem
\nin all walks of life its now there
\neveryone’s suffering corporate power
\nleading to massive despair
\nbut killing off wild souls and blaming
\nwild souls for poor husbandry
\nis a factor too far for this poet
\nand for those so called idealists who be<\/p>\n
out there protecting and helping
\nthe Bison to feed and to be
\nsafe from the hunters who shoot them on sight
\nMontana is no place to be
\nboth wolf and Bison are up to the necks
\nin haters who want them all dead
\nbut that’s that they are the most ignorant people
\nand really its why they have led<\/p>\n
a posse of people to kill them
\nignorance is a disease
\nand coupled with arrogant corporate souls
\nthe Bison are now on their knees
\nwolves are just treated like vermin
\nbut they are important and we
\nmust create a climate of care and of thought
