Australia has really got to get
\nitself in gear
\nits making strange decisions
\naffecting the folk born here
\nyea we’re small I give you that
\nand of course we live in trees
\nwe are your arboreal cousins
\nwe are trying to please
\nwe’re iconic, and tourists
\ncome in by the thousands
\njust to see
\nKoala’s that’s the reason
\nreally why I make my plea<\/p>\n
what do I eat?well leaves of course
\nthe Eucalypt’s that’s why
\nyou need to keep them standing
\nand peering at the sky
\nalready drought and fire
\ncan minimise our store
\nwith protein being lessened
\nand tannin being more<\/p>\n
as marsupials we are worried
\nfor the future of our breed
\nits not exactly easy
\nto continue to succeed
\nwith you lot putting highways
\nthrough the parks where we
\nlive and die and really try
\nto wonder where you be<\/p>\n
In Sydney or in Canberra
\nin a high rises made of glass
\nmaking your decisions
\nas the bloody sports cars
\npass
\nand well over the speed limit
\nbut what you fail to see
\nis the little folk the Koala’s
\nwho need the nice tall tree<\/p>\n
most of the time we are sleeping
\ndreaming of another day
\nwhen we can have a picnic
\nleaves just leaves
\nwhat do you say
\nyou with myriad choices
\nto us who only know
\nleaves and you are doing away
\nwith them so where to go<\/p>\n
we don’t drink so we are thinking
\nstraight
\nwe live some 14 years
\nthe males are going through it
\nus females have our tears
\nwe get infections in our urinary system,
\nwhich kind of pains a bit
\nbut cutting all our trees down
\nand leaving us in the s**t<\/p>\n
you need to just start thinking
\nwhat it is you need
\ndo you need pollution
\nand lots of extra greed
\nor do you need some fresh clean air
\nsome green leaves, yea and us
\nthe Koala’s the iconic ones
\nthere’s nothing to discuss<\/p>\n
really we are born here
\nraised here we’re the one’s
\nwho ought to get protection
\nfrom these evil concrete runs
\nthat bring in speed and accidents
\nand rape the countryside
\nreally we were born here
\nthat cannot be denied<\/p>\n
and you make the decisions
\nyou have the where for all
\ndo you want us iconic souls
\nwho children think are cool
\nor do you want to see the back of us
\nalong with the kangaroo
\nfor without us
\nwhy Australia
\nwould they come to see you ?<\/p>\n
sitting in your offices
\npin striped ties and suits
\nin your detached bungaloe’s
\nforgetful of your roots
\nimporting all the technology
\nthats ruining the earth
\nand thinking yourselves clever
\ncreating your own worth<\/p>\n
the decision I leave it to you
\nit would be nice if we
\ncould carry on living where we were put
\nand not face misery
\nbut then you are the humans
\nthe two legs and you make
\nthe decisions that could ruin us
\nand the poets heart could break<\/p>\n
