When the wolf sings
\nhis head is held high
\naimed at the heavens
\nof course we know why
\nhe makes his appeal
\nat the top of his voice
\nbecause he now realises
\nhe has no choice<\/p>\n
he has to be patient
\nhe has to take care
\nfor there are big enemies
\nclearly out there
\ngunning for him
\nwith all of their might
\nand he now does know
\nthat he is in their sight<\/p>\n
habitat loss
\nits now everywhere
\neven the wilderness
\noffers despair
\nno where is sacrosanct
\nnot any more
\nfor the ranchers are at it
\nits more or less war<\/p>\n
and they have the money
\nand they have success
\nthey have the land
\nand they know how to stress
\nwolves and coyotes
\nbears and the like
\nand they have the rifles
\nand are so quick to strike<\/p>\n
there are activists
\nwho love wolves
\nand who care
\nbut they don’t have
\nthe where for all
\noh yes they share
\nbut financially speaking
\nthey don’t have a lot
\nand they can’t get their fingers
\nin some greasy pot<\/p>\n
they don’t have the lobbying power
\nand therefore
\nit isn’t so easy
\nto get through the law
\nmoney breeds money breeds money
\nand so
\nif you don’t have it
\nno one wants to know<\/p>\n
legislative power
\nif its needed its hard
\nwhen you are fighting the ranchers
\nyou can get quite scarred
\nand the wolves have their input
\nbut history shows
\nwhen they up against cattle
\nyou keep on your toes<\/p>\n
wolves being predators
\noften get blamed
\nits not that they do things
\nits what some have claimed
\nand people are ready to shoot
\nand then ask
\nand then its too late
\nto bring them to task<\/p>\n
its really hard out there
\nthe stresses and strains
\nthe hunters the trappers
\nthey go to great pains
\nto ravage the system
\nto threaten us all
\nand push our backs clearly
\nright up to the wall<\/p>\n
when the wolf sings
\nhe holds his head high
\nhe thinks of the moon
\nbut of course its the sky
\nas the drama unfolds there
\nhis great silhouette
\nstriding out of the dawn
\nis clearly well met<\/p>\n
by the sweep of the sun
\nin the heat of the day
\nas the shadows burn deeper
\nthe grassy lands pay
\nits when other prey animals
\nrest up and try
\nto keep out of our way
