I was in the park
\nwhen suddenly my owner
\ngrabbed his knife
\ngot hold of me
\nand slammed me
\nI was frightened for my life
\nI felt that blade below my neck
\nand the pain it scared my soul
\nas he stripped away my outer fur
\nI hardly could control
\nthe pain was an intensity
\nbeyond anything I’d known
\nand then he went and left me
\nyes I am fully grown
\nwhy oh why did he do this
\nI can’t describe it, he
\njust took his knife and did it
\nhe just did it to me
\nand there wasn’t any reason
\none minute he was calm
\nthe next a raving lunatic
\ngiving me such harm
\nand how my skin was weeping
\nits was perilously sore
\nSouth West Detroit
\nin a green park
\nand the world seemed to ignore
\nwhy did he start to skin me
\nthen stop I’d done no wrong
\nI’d quietly come down stairs
\nal’right
\nI knew I did belong
\nwhere he put me everyday
\nI never ventured out
\nmy basket was my basket
\nhis rules I did not flout
