My mother is big
\nMy mother is strong
\nshe came from Africa
\nshe did belong to Africa
\nwhere the sun boldly does shine
\nand always she told me
\nthat place was divine<\/p>\n
huge great expanses of
\nsweet smelling plain
\nmountains up yonder
\nplaces to gain
\ndust baths a plenty
\ntrees for to try
\nfreedom was everywhere
\nunder the sky<\/p>\n
but where we are now
\nwe are shackled in chains
\nthe pull on our legs
\nit bloody well drains
\nour spirit, and mother is tired
\nall the time
\nthe food we are given
\nis coated in slime<\/p>\n
and mould always on it
\nthis circus is bad
\nhaving to do tricks
\nmakes mother sad
\nthere’s just me and mum here
\nbut often we feel
\nhow nice it would be
\nif we just could conceal<\/p>\n
ourselves in a truck
\nand just go back home
\nwhere the lions and antelopes
\nand buffalo’s roam<\/p>\n
where a great orange ball
\nhangs fast in the sky
\nsending its heat where the
\nanimals lie
\ndrying the scrub and heating the grass
\nwhere the light fills the soul
\nthere mother would pass<\/p>\n
and rumble and trumpet
\nand cry to the sky
\nas the vultures came in
\nhoping to rely
\non the death of a zebra
\ncut down by a Lion
\nand pick up some tid bits
\nI counted just nine<\/p>\n
big flapping wings
\nand threadbare throats red
\nwhat a kill brings
\nto the table we’re led
\nto share some weird souls
\nready to lap up blood
\nthat controls
\nthe carnivore spirit
\nand flood<\/p>\n
whose fangs or whose
\nclaws
\nwill tear into flesh
\nwith their terrible jaws<\/p>\n
as for me I was born in the circus
\nof doom
\nmy cage really doesn’t have enough room
\nits filthy and rusty and wet with the slime
\nthat hangs from the top now all of the time
\nMother at night she stands by the van
\nrecalling the time she was caught by some man
\nwho took her to task with his whip and his tow
\nand led her and captured her as we all know<\/p>\n
now she gives rides
\nand does tricks with some clown
\nwho climbs on her head
\nand then shimmies down
\nwe are proud creatures
\nwe know it is wrong
\nto torment us and treat us
