A real fine church stands
\non a hill in Little Kimble
\nthat’s a place
\njust outside Princes Risborough
\nand tonight in heavy rain
\nI noticed a big shiny cow
\ngulping in the verdant grass
\nenjoying it such rumination
\nall that taste, her eyes
\nwere happy eyes
\nthat’s a surprise<\/p>\n
for the rain was lashing down
\nnext to her that little church
\nimagine all those centuries
\nall those cows have chewed that cud
\nand sloshed about in all that mud
\nnext to what is such a find
\na medieval church
\nmy mind
\nwas drawn
\nto how that big cow must feel
\ndoes she realise
\nhow long the church has stood
\nand could she reveal<\/p>\n
that whimsical delight perhaps
\nto ponder long ago
\nwhen earlier cows
\ncould feed their calves
\nwith their own milk and know<\/p>\n
their truly fine nutrition
\nwould strengthen them up so
\nunlike the milk she now produces
\nthat now just has to go<\/p>\n
to the humans who believe their calves
\nthis rumination seems
\nto be the ruination
\nfor really all her dreams<\/p>\n
were truthfully of her baby
\nbut it was killed at birth
\nthe farmer decided it was male
\nand therefore wasn’t worth<\/p>\n
keeping flog it off for cheese
\ncat food no one cared
\nthat church had stood the test of time
\nwhen little cows were spared<\/p>\n
right back then when England
\nlooked after every cow
\nunlike now we suffer so
\nso few though know how <\/p>\n
they see us in the fields sometimes
\nbeing fattened up a bit
\nor they see us in those pristine trays
\ncut up and left to sit<\/p>\n
under those pink marketing lights
\nthat make dead flesh look great
\nby that time of course my soul
\nhas flown and I am on your plate<\/p>\n
and all that pain and suffering
\nI pass onto you
\nand you can now absorb it all
