All the supermarkets
\nand the corporates out there
\nall of them are at it
\nhelping us despair
\nat the razing of the forests
\nthe great lungs choke and cough
\ncan you hear that wrenching sound
\nas those great trunks all break off
\nand fall some 40 feet or more
\ninto the litter where
\nthousands of creature’s’s
\nlive and die anyway they share
\nthis environment
\nthat’s living the cacophony of life
\nbalanced and now mobilised
\nto share man’s greed and strife<\/p>\n
the Orang- utans are up there
\ntheir concerns are mine
\nmore and more trees smoking
\nwhat were once divine
\nand now a blackened ruin
\nas forests open out
\nand in comes those small palm groves
\nbehold an awful rout<\/p>\n
mournful eyes are peering
\nout of the leafy boughs
\ntheir habitat is being torn
\naway their velvet towers
\nare now no more all that we see
\nis vast areas where light
\nis flooding in and exposing
\na truly gruesome sight<\/p>\n
its like a bloody cemetery
\nstumps just everywhere
\nbranches cracked and piled as if
\na bomb blew up right there
\na lot of little bodies
\nlay broken on the floor
\nthese palm oil people do not care
\nall residents they ignore<\/p>\n
the corporations out there
\nand they know who they are
\ndon’t stand on any ceremony
\nthe bulldozers soon scar
\nwhat is left of what was
\na forest bright and green
\nand now its just war zone
\na mashed up broken scene<\/p>\n
imagine those Orang-utans
\nno trees for them to climb
\njust hiding in the broken branches
\nwondering where their time
\nwill be spent in the future
\nseemingly that’s it
\nunless somebody saves them
\nthey are all in the shit <\/p>\n
rehabilitation might work
\nbut it appears
\nthere’s illegal deforestation
\nand so a lot of fears
\nthese corporates are above the law
\nand with money they can buy
\nanything they want alas
\nso the voiceless may have to die<\/p>\n
they have stitched up the public
\nin every country, they
\nare utilizing palm oil and of course
\nthe public pay
\nthey think the food is cheaper
\nit may be for a while
\nbut in an environmental sense
\nit is lacking such style<\/p>\n
and of course its not just animals
\nthe indigenous feel the heat
\neveryone is suffering
\ntheir poor and so we cheat
\nthem out of sacred land and
\nfood source
\nits just wiped away
\nthe women raped the men got rid off
\neveryone can pay<\/p>\n
and now we have some sanctuaries
\nwhere animals can go
\nwe have the activists out there
\nthe movement it does grow
\nbut the palm forests are everywhere
\na shadowy lifeless place
\nin point of fact it has to be
\nto my mind a disgrace<\/p>\n
the lungs are black and still
\nthe vibrancy is gone
\nrats and cobras, the odd owl
\nthis curse falls now upon
\nwhat was a living city
\na perfect web of life
\nand all we see and hear now
\nis a a savage sinful strife<\/p>\n
Palm oil is in everything
\neverything you buy
\neven in one’s breakfast flakes
\nand of course we do know why
\nits cheap and labour costs are low
\nfor there’s money to be had
\ndespite the rampant transport costs
\nthe margin isn’t bad<\/p>\n
its the environment that’s suffering
\nand the earthlings that now die
\nthe lungs that breathe life into us
\nare gone and we know why
\nso corporates can kill us
\nand we are taking a hit
\nweather patterns are changing fast
\nwe are really in the shit<\/p>\n
but they now run the world they do
\nand decide, what to do
\nthey spray the chem trails in the sky
\nand it falls down on you
\nthey test out various chemicals
\nand change the weather too
\nevery one’s a guinea pig
\nin what is the great new zoo<\/p>\n
as for the orang utans the elephants
\nand the rest
\nI think its now unlikely
\nor anyway at best
\nfor most of them to be here
\nsay in 30 years
\nthey will have all been slaughtered
