The skin of the cow
\nthat poor over worked
\nsoul who in the dark stable once
\nlurked
\nshe may have had 3 calves
\nall of them taken
\nshe carried them 9 months
\nbut she was forsaken
\nif humans need cows milk
\nthen baby calves
\nare stolen and slaughtered
\nthose are the two halves
\nof the great dairy business
\nthey keep from your view
\nthey won’t spend a penny
\nmore than they have to
\nso its curtains for male babies
\nthey have to go
\nsplit from their mama
\nwho will cry and bellow
\nthis is the life of a cow
\nits the yield
\nof milk she can give
\nas the margins then build
\nbut when she’s tired out
\nand the milk does reduce
\nagain she is off
\nits rather a ruse
\noff to the slaughterhouse
\nleather and beef
\nat least some more profit
\nah! that’s a relief!<\/p>\n
But here was a lady
\nwho gave such a lot
\nshe worked like the clappers
\nshe just was not
\na waster like the farmer
\nshe, really tried
\npregnant 4 times
\nall that was denied
\nas she got older and slower
\nyou’d think
\nsome kind of retirement
\noh no on the brink
\nthen to the slaughterhouse
\nyes straight away
\nand so limping badly
\nshe is on her way<\/p>\n
a little light sunshine
\nmay fall on her back
\nas she mounts the truck
\nand then hits the sack
\nshe is tired she is weary
\nshe is positively lame
\nbut she’s dragged off
\nat the other end
\nyea just the same<\/p>\n
nobody cares
\nfor the life she has lead
\nthe torture
\nthe emotion stress
\nnow ahead
\nall that is left
\nis the ultimate price
\nslashed across the throat
\nand hauled up in a trice
\nas she bleeds out
\nand chokes on her blood
\nhow she feels
\neyeing the butcher below
\nwho reveals
\nthe meanest of streaks
\nas he cuts and he strips
\nthe skin from her body
\nhe unnervingly rips
\nthis precious old lady
\nmaybe she is 5
\na baby in our terms
\nand no more alive
\nthan the floor her blood
\npours onto
\nshe has now gone
\nwhy I don’t want leather
\never to don
\nto me it is obvious
\nthen comes the rest
\nthe tannery
\nbrain tanning yea its the best
\nchromium mercury solvents galore
\nso pollution is rife
\nof that I am sure
\ndurable flexible that’s what they say
\nbut of that poor tortured cow
\nwho just had to pay
\nnobody cares she is just gone just lost
