The carriage I draw
\nit nis really mean
\nI am expected to be
\na machine
\nwhatever the weather
\ncold or hot
\nI am made to carry
\nand run a lot<\/p>\n
the traffic, the scorching
\nsummer where they
\nthe tourists I mean
\nthey fidget away
\nchortle and stand up
\nand give me such grief
\nhonest let me say
\ndeath would be a relief<\/p>\n
its a struggle each day
\nand a high price to pay
\nits sinew straining
\neach muscle paining
\nspasms all over
\nlife far from clover
\nto try and maintain
\nmy gait and in vain<\/p>\n
cars all around me
\nexhaust fumes so smelly
\nmy legs getting weaker
\nand feeling like jelly
\ntearing the heart out
\nof what is this soul
\nwho genuinely otherwise
\ncan have control<\/p>\n
it does pain my feet
\ndisempowering me fast
\nfor each step that I manage
\ncould be my last
\nin the mornings I awake
\nI remember the day
\nand how much I’d love
\njust to chew on some hay<\/p>\n
just to stand in a field
\nwith the sun in my soul
\nwith the breeze in my mane
\nin complete control
\nof all of my faculties
\njust being me
\nnot a rotten machine
\nThat I’m expected to be<\/p>\n
just today my old friend
\ncollapsed and she died
\nshe was tired she told me
\nbut she had so much pride
\nshe worked like the clappers
\nand they didn’t care
\nnever a brush
\nor a shine on her hair
\njust poor food
\nand work
\nshe worked till she dropped
\nthis ugly behaviour
\nit has to be stopped<\/p>\n
spca and PETa both do
\nSay they are helpful
\nBut its not true
\nWe need the public to give us a break
\nWe need it fast
\nWhy do they take
\nEverything from us
\nAnd don’t let us rest
\nJust stop this now
