For years I have been flummoxed
\nby the response from all these islanders
\nwho have to beach these whales
\nand slaughter each of them by hand
\nHistory created this really awful happening
\nthe soil around those parts thought
\nnot conducive rock and sand
\ntheir concern for base nutrition
\nintroduced them to the mission
\nof slaughtering the sea life
\nto gain sufficient food
\nbut the terrible pollution
\nmeans it can’t be a solution
\nthe mercury and PCB’s to which
\nI now allude<\/p>\n
it is a senseless slaughter
\nfor clearly in the water
\nman has shot his worst and
\nits coming home to roost
\nit might protect these wretched souls
\nliving in their watery holes
\nbut custom and tradition
\nnow apparently controls<\/p>\n
the thinking for like robots
\nthe islanders continue
\nslaughtering the whales
\nand slashing them to death
\nthese are sentient beings
\nintelligent and capable
\nthis is such a waste of life
\nbegrudging them of breath <\/p>\n
my feelings are that somehow
\nthis carnage has to stop
\nnutrition for the islanders
\nmust be at the top
\nsurely the Danish Authorities
\ncan see to it that they
\nhave the where for all to cope
\nwithout the need to slay<\/p>\n
creatures that are jam packed
\nwith toxins that create
\nterrible imbalances in consumers
\nat the rate
\nwhere cancers will be prevalent
\nand illness will be high
\nthe need is to protect the people
\nand ensure the whales don’t die<\/p>\n
from desperation judgement
\ncan wreak a crooked path
\nand for want of good nutrition
\nit may be that the wrath
\nof all that’s bad will fall on
\nthose who fail to realise
\nthat consuming highly toxic meat
\nwill hasten their demise<\/p>\n
some might say good riddance
\nits not that simple, we
\nmust help those feeling frustrated
\nand lonely by the sea
\nthese islands called the Faroe’s
\nhave their share of woe
\nbut killing whales and eating them
\nis not the way to go<\/p>\n
besides the awful way their killed
\nturning the beaches red
\nribboning their living flesh
\nslashing till their dead
\nis egregious torture
\ntheir pain must be immense
\nit worrying and painful
\nand it never did make sense
\nbut it now makes even less sense
\nfor these creatures rapidly
\nare jam packed with dioxins
\nand with amounts of mercury<\/p>\n
Pregnant females
\nbabies
\njuveniles all die
\nthe islanders just don’t seem phased
\nwe must ask ourselves why
\ncompassion for those creatures
\napparently isn’t there
\nthe mayhem of successive grinds
\nwhich lead to our despair<\/p>\n
it has to stop, it has to
\nits murderous dissent
\nit ugly and futile
\nthat so many souls are spent
\nscience has already warned
\nthe islanders that they face
\nmore cancers and more illness
\nwhich is rising at a pace<\/p>\n
they are storing up their problems
\nand must realise its so
\nthe food source is a toxic source
\nand problems there will grow
\nthere must be other answers
\nand Denmark should now be
\nworking with them purposefully
\nhelping them to see<\/p>\n
helping them to supplement
\ntheir diets and to show
\nthem that this awful carnage
\nis becoming such a blow
\nto people all around the world
\nwho see this and who feel
\nthe whales must have some say in this
\nfor in them they conceal
\nsuch toxins man un kind created
\nand tossed over board
\nto this extent most realise
\nthe price we can’t afford<\/p>\n
we arrogantly jettisoned
\nour toxins in the sea
\nsomehow our truest arrogance
\nmean’t we ignorantly
\nimagined they would disappear
\nbiodegrade be gone
\nbut of course their half lives
\nstretch across the centuries
\nand go on<\/p>\n
poisoning the planet
\nand all who come to be
\nthose who swim the oceans
\nclearly they now see
\ntheir bodies really loaded
\nwith the toxic waste we use
\nand throw away haphazardly
\nin a sense we just abuse
\nall that we were given
\nall the good that was there
\nwe thinking very selfishly
