Unlike the Dinosaurs
\nthe wolf is still here
\nthere are threats for the wilderness
\nthats abundantly clear
\nthere are shadows that come
\nwhen the moon lights our way
\nin those sweet twilight hours
\ntheir presence allay
\nfears of a nightmarish spirit
\nthat stalks
\nthe forests of flow
\nwhere the great black wolf walks
\nfear at the outset
\nhas followed this soul
\nit has entered the story books
\nand possibly stole
\nthe logic from what was
\na genuine thought
\nthat the wolf knew a lot
\nand couldn’t be bought<\/p>\n
instinct and knowledge
\nlocal and past
\nwere referred to
\nby wolves
\nwhich could be, recalled fast
\nnothing forgotten
\nexperience was
\nnever manipulated
\njust because<\/p>\n
they had such reasoning
\ninside their head
\nthey were born where they lived
\nwhere they laid down their head
\nmattered to them
\nwhen all is said
\nand done
\nthe environment they were immersed in
\nwas won<\/p>\n
by hardness and logic
\nand remarkable power
\nas the apex predators
\nwhy would they cower
\nfrom anyone
\nthe mantra
\nreally was theirs
\neven the Puma and Grizzly Bears
\nrespected the pack
\nand what it could do
\nfor the black wolf
\nof all of the wolves
\ndid it too<\/p>\n
he stole through the darkness
\nwhen the mists come to call
\nfew ever saw him
\nbut as a rule
\nhe comes and he watches
\nand listens to those
\nwho plot now against wolves
\nand really who pose<\/p>\n
a significant problem
\nthese new ranching men
\nbuilding their fences
\nand wondering when
\nthey can split up the wilderness
\nand make its theirs
\nand shoot any wolf who comes by and dares<\/p>\n
the black wolf is there
\nhe always is there
\nnobody sees him
\nbut his prints he does share
\npeople know of a lone wolf
\nthats all they know
\nall the traps no one sees him
\nfor he’s in the flow
\nas sky swallows the dawn
\nhe’s gone to his place
\nwhere he was once born
