Wolves are an anathema
\nfrom man’s own sad creation
\nthat ghostly howl
\nfrom that hairy jowl
\nthat spirit of damnation
\npack animals whose instincts
\nare immense and as a bond
\ncan fight whatever corner
\nand from it then abscond<\/p>\n
free spirits in the wilderness
\nwith power beyond belief
\nand an apex predator
\nwho can put their world to grief
\nthey hone the other species
\ninto a better shape in fact
\nwith their relentless selection process
\nthat really does attract<\/p>\n
for more true attention
\nfrom our white coats than you’d know
\nfor they are true survivors
\npart of the big flow
\nthey understand the environment
\nthey live in and we see
\nthem successful in a broader sense
\nso a threat to those who be<\/p>\n
on the earth as masters
\nthe ranchers and their kin
\nguilty of peddling flesh and blood
\nwhich is a mortal sin
\npredation of the carnivore
\nis one thing but we see
\nthe humanoid now consuming
\nmore and more unnecessarily<\/p>\n
and why is this do you imagine
\nit will shorten their span
\nlook at the giant tortoise
\nand the elephant the plan
\nto reduce their time consuming
\nfrom say 100 down to ten
\nmeans the population explosion
\nsees a shortening and by then<\/p>\n
the carnivore lives a shorter life
\nthan the vegetarian breed
\nbut the wolves are seen in a different light
\nwe have harmed them and must concede
\na lot of why they are hated
\nis the fiction we have spread
\nwe have humanized them in the horror
\nstories we have read<\/p>\n
in fact they are the hunter
\nthey have no one who can say
\nthere is a better fitter hunter
\nout there, anyway
\nand so they are a threat to man
\nwho walks beside them and
\ndoesn’t see their true worth
\nand doesn’t understand<\/p>\n
the first people they were of the land
\nthey knew the wolf and they
\nrespected him for what he was
\nand both walked the same way
\nthe rancher on the other hand
\ncomes from a new domain
\nbased on corporate wisdom
\nand a heart full of disdain<\/p>\n
for all the wandering spirits
\nwho walk the wilder path
\nwhose ceilings are the sky above
\nand the baked sod is their hearth
\nthe forest are their 4 walls
\nthe air they breathes is clean
\nthey run hard up against the wind
\nand are forever lean<\/p>\n
and thus a threat to those
\nwho sink into the avid mire
\nwho sup the distilled liquor
\nand consume the flesh so dire
\nthis is not the flesh of wild souls
\nit is factory farmed meat
\nthe animals were sedentary
\nfed on GM wheat
\nand soya from those miles beyond
\nwhere pesticides were used
\nwhere every single blade of grass
\nand meadow was abused<\/p>\n
the wolf presents a challenge
\nto their superiority
\nhe is a canny fellow
\nwith a brain to match and he be
\nup to their shenanigans
\nand thus presents his threat
\nand thus the lobbying masses
\nwill see him as their debt<\/p>\n
and so they pass their lurid laws
\nand call him a sick name
\nanyway they can create
\nany kind of blame
\nthey will and do
\nand continue to hound him
\nfor they know
\nhe has the better of them
\nbecause he’s in the flow<\/p>\n
there are folks, who appreciate
\nthe wolf and what he does
\nthey understand his prowess
\nhe gives the world that buzz
\nbut money talks in rancher land
\nand the politicians hear
\nthe sounds of counting dollar bills
\nand that fine sound does cheer<\/p>\n
and so the march to freedom
\nfor the wolf is dire and long
\nwill he, wont he, I don’t know
\nthe strength of feelings strong
\nin both camps
\none is money based
\nthe other heartfelt, and they
\noften do not have the funds
\nto take the case and pay<\/p>\n
those pipers with the measly power
\nand this can sometimes be
\nthe difference for a species
\nas we see in history
\nMy hope is that the wolf survives
\nthe vagaries of those
\nwho fill their bodies
\nwith dead flesh
\nand try to superimpose
\ntheir politics on others
\non free thinkers in the flow
\nthat walk the paths of freedom
