The moment the fresh air enveloped them
\nyou could feel that happiness
\nemanating from their souls
\na rejoicing from the stress
\nthat had clearly dominated
\ntheir short lives up till then
\nraped and made pregnant
\nchildren kidnapped
\nand slaughter likely when
\nthey all became exhausted
\nby the pressure of it all
\ninstead some years of sanctuary life
\nin what had been one long haul<\/p>\n
to see them and to feel that energy
\nlocked inside, they
\nwere energised completely
\nand ran this and that way every way
\ncharged up just the desire
\nto frolic, it came back to them
\nthey felt that natural fire<\/p>\n
fulfilment so enraptured
\nby the great expanse of green
\nthe cud was there for chewing
\na most idyllic scene
\nawaited their inspection
\nwith wild plants by the score
\nthey bounced like little baby lambs
\njust wanting more and more<\/p>\n
imagine in the milk parlours
\nmillions of cows wait
\nfor the time when they are to be released
\nand go to the slaughter gate
\njust imagine if a few of them
\ncould come to a sanctuary
\nand be filmed as they got wind of that
\nrealising they were free<\/p>\n
its such a remarkable story
\ngladsome to behold
\nthese are heavy animals
\nbut light of foot and sold
\non running and appreciating
\nwhat is now in store
\na life free of the torture
\nthat they had come to abhor<\/p>\n
contentment philosophic
\na softness does return
\ntheir faces warm and happy
\nclearly they did yearn
\nthis freedom with emotion
\nthis utter resignation
\nreposeful in so many way
