QF651 15th April from Darwin Airport to Cairns

At Darwin I met Lonnie

an angel in the airport

A Jet Star lady told him

about me

and up he came

Full of upbeat banter

a kind of all year Santa

A Boarding card

But would not tell me

his name.

He took me to the pat down place

Where I had to sign a form

I told them not to squeeze my legs

They were feverish and warm

They agreed and they didn’t squeeze them

and after that ordeal

I sat and watched others entering

the “Twilight Zone” for real!

Then Lonnie came back for me

and saw me to the plane

an angel, a real angel

so caring once again

Which made me truly realise

That angels do exist

They really truly are out there

Reading to assist

The shuttle from the Hotel

alas though paid for came

But I could not get up its steps

and a taxi man by name

Took me for 20 dollars

The shuttle was no good

It was frightfully inadequate

Much worse than it really should

So to meet up with Dear Lonnie

and be helped so very much

Brought faith back to me actually

And just kept me in touch

Australia’s hotels fail their customers

In Darwin it was hot,

humid and different

Tropical, a Thai place did provide

Cold water in a pretty pinkish bottle

Free of charge

it so was worth the ride!

A veggie Laksa

and a soulful interlude

No hotel offerred me

that treat, alas

It was only blissful eateries

That gave me what I needed

The hotels charged

and their water was crass

Expecting us to sup

Out of the bathroom

All over OZ on them you

can’t rely

I went to see the Crocodile shop

so advertised

“Come and see the prehistoric souls”

Thrash about in water

Till killed for each body part

No way could I give support

Those roles just broke my heart

Letting the iced water

trickle slowly down my throat

Helped me get back to the hotel

it got on my goat

To think that I spent hundreds

of dollars for a bed

and would have to drink

from the Bathroom

or pay more which, well led

me down to the reception

on the final day

I got stuck on the low seats

But an angel there did say

Can I help you and he did

with a colleague raised me and

turned out to be a nurse

called Sid

And that made me feel grand

he helped me swiftly on that day

and so I then went on my way.

Lana, got off at Alice

Those long legs and those creams

Stretched out on her cases

Where she had shared her dreams

She hadn’t aaten all her fruit

And so gave it to me

She would have had to quarantine it

otherwise, you see!

Those pears and apples were

ust what I needed

Juicy and sweet

just what I needed most

On the train it was fine to

eat the apples

But off the train

You ust gave up the ghost

Lana left,

a smile

and she had disappeared

I would relish

all that juice, for she

Hopefully she realised

her gift was great

Quaarantine it?

It was better off,

in me

A moments indecision

Where Great Whites

have killed 2, I hear

And 5 were crushed to death

On that very beach,

I was almost swamped

in that tide line lost my breath

A wave came in

a crazy wave

and filled my boots with sand

The pull was mighty from the sea

which didn’t feel too grand

To felt myself sink rapidly

It Shocked me to the core

I had pulled myself back from the brink

I had kind of won the war

I clambered up the sand

I did

Happy to be free

Heart’thumping I was walking

In dry sand earnestly

The sea had felt wet, and frightening

Thank God I had the power

To find my own reality

Wthin what was the now

The Devils Marbles in the Northern territory

The Devils marbles

The Rainbow Serpent’s eggs

Karlukarlu, are sacred

these huge red boulders begs

the question

South of Tennant Creek

Really a long long way

north of Stuart Highway

Litchfield and

Uluru

Alice Springs

the beating

heart

Thats now in all of you

Xanthorrhoea or Grass Tree (Black Boy)

Its apparent

that this most unusual tree

survives because

its willing to add sacrifice

It knew really it was

To create from its lower roots

Compost so to say

its rotted down creation

Is its medium Today

It can access the nutrients

It adapts well and it can

In arid times be

able to actually just plan

Its all about survival

And this soul knows the bush

In time it gros a trunk infact

and starts its upward push

I am truly fascinated

With the wild plants of WA

And this grass tree so evident

Proves there is a way.

The Flinders Ranges

The Flinders ranges loom

Their mystery does interest me

Sweeping up horizons with

a patient tendency

Wooden running comfortably

along the skyline view

Hiding myriads of plants

Of every single hue

Its as if some giant

crinkled paper

and put them on his model plain

Soft contours fill the sweep of evening

and all seen from the train

Gracetown

Gracetown there it is

the winding dirt track led us to

The Levwin Natural Parks wild flowers

and gorse and heather view

a blue sky

and a bright blue sea

and surf a creamy white

We stayed and played

on the deep white sand

and all loved

the bright sunlight

There have been some fatalities

cliff falls and and Great White Sharks

But we enjoyed the scenery

And the wild and rugged parks

Australia

A land of, splendid contrasts

Of freedom, and a grandeur on a scale

That human eyes and hearts

find really daunting

and tis here begins, my fascinating tale.

Perth the great Swan River carves its

corridor

Alongside the white sky scrapers

its blue

softening the fabric, such meanderings

Strike its core repose in front of you

The people clearly resonate around it

They walk, they jog, they barbecue

They rest

Under a shady friendly tree

Where the cockatoo may sometimes be

Lycra covered joggers take their rest

The sun smiles on the city,

this March clearly

Took its pot shot at the records and

glaring heat can burn those

unaware of it

a factor tourists have to understand

The Eucalyptus rules the

roost majestically

Its massive trunks of cream and mottled brown

Its many arms spread out to offer sanctity

To sheltering souls

who otherwise could drown

Instead within the shelter that is offerred

a warm embrace assurred for all who dare

To come out in the noon day sun

and pound the towpath one by one

And offer help to everybody there.

In all of immensity

Which is the real world

The chance of cncounters

seem apparently

Hard to imagine

But clear in the vastness

The measure of time and

the solemnity

On a plane bound for somewhere

Huddled together

Two souls did meet

And their hearts did entwine

Mindfully they walked

on God’s earth together

Shared the same sights

and drank the same wine
