There he was just close to where I live

A master magician

its stalwart campaign

long legged long necked

a patient refrain

three pointing forwards

One backward

its toes

its bill quite a long one

all the answers it knows

of a fish in the water

its eye it will train

its spirit is strong

and it wishes to gain

its a tough nut to crack

a living statue

with a glimmering pack

and its there in full view

they are highly mobile

carnivorous they

seeks out from the edges

live aquatic prey

Molluscs  crustaceans

and some larger foe

birds eggs on the menu

and crabs who may show

an elegant masterful

champion who

looks up

his beady eye

out of the blue

a poet wont fail

its perfectionist glance

a picker a chooser

a delicate dance

demanding and choosy

distinctive it be

it baffles description

when it looks up at me

a state of  wonderment

a sorcerer he

takes me to fairyland

and lets me see

what he sees

how he feels

his inscrutable mind

That remarkable  stare

of the feathery kind.
